Job Description
Oversees the daily operations and clinical management of the Medical-Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Telemetry, Acute Rehab, and House Supervision, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and optimal department performance. Provides strong leadership, coordination, and support to nursing and clinical staff while fostering collaboration with physicians and hospital leadership. Responsible for driving performance improvement, managing budgets, developing staff, and advancing clinical education to uphold excellence in patient care and adherence to hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based best practices.
- Manage all nursing activities in the Medical-Surgical Unit, ICU, Telemetry, Acute Rehab, and House Supervision to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
- Support staff in assessing and responding to patient conditions, ensuring adherence to best practices in pain management, medication safety, and patient education.
- Actively participate in patient care as needed, providing hands-on clinical support and stepping in during staffing shortages, emergencies, or high-acuity situations.
- Maintain compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and Indiana Department of Health regulations in alignment with hospital policies and procedures. Ensure documentation and patient care meet current standards.
- Performs management activities such as interviewing, hiring, performance management, termination and other required nursing personnel activities.
- Develop and implement staff education programs, training sessions, ongoing education, in-service trainings and competency assessments to ensure clinical excellence and quality compliance.
- Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives, monitor key performance indicators, and drive department-wide compliance with key activities such as infection control and patient safety.
- Formulate and manage department budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure efficient utilization of resources while maintaining quality care.
- Serve as a liaison between nurses, physicians, administration, and ancillary departments to enhance patient care coordination.
- Act as the senior nursing leader on duty during shifts, managing emergent situations and resource allocation as directed by Chief Nursing Officer
