Davis, Bengtson & Young, APLC ("DBY") is an established litigation firm that specializes in a wide range of practice areas primarily related to public entity defense throughout the State of California. Our practice involves all aspects of pretrial investigations, civil litigation, trial, and appellate work.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a Litigation Paralegal, ideally with 2 years of experience with civil litigation and discovery in State and Federal court.

As a team member, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of cases, primarily in connection with representing our public entity clients in both State and Federal Court. You will also be supported by others through the process. We have an open-door policy, welcome questions and discussion, and collaborate on cases.

The ideal candidate will be a personable, organized, and detail-oriented self-starter with a strong background / interest in litigation / trial work and exceptional legal research and writing skills.

The position is flexible concerning remote / hybrid work schedules.

Anticipated Responsibilities

The position requires hands-on management of and collaboration on files throughout all stages of the litigation process. No two matters are identical. Each case presents its own unique facts, circumstances, legal strategy, and opposing counsel that can impact the activity in the case substantially.

However, in general, typical responsibilities include :

  • Assisting in all phases of litigation from case initiation through trial.
  • Assisting with the preparation and filing of pleadings in Federal and State courts.
  • Preparing discovery requests and responses – to involve conducting client interviews, document / information collection and organization, review, summarizing, and production.
  • Assisting with deposition, meeting, or hearing preparations.
  • Performing various day-to-day case management tasks.

Specific Qualifications & Attributes

  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate.
  • Prior experience as a paralegal, preferably in litigation and discovery.
  • Understanding of common litigation practices, procedures, procedures, and workflow in State and Federal court matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Lexis Nexis, and Adobe.
  • Familiarity with e-discovery and ESI.

  • Preparing legal documents – i.e., pleadings, discovery requests / responses, motions, and briefs
  • Preparing discovery requests and responses
  • Communicating and collaborating internally with the team and externally with clients, expert witnesses, co-counsel, and opposing counsel
  • Conducting legal research and analysis
  • Maintaining positive client relationships

  • The salary range for this position reflects a variety of factors considered in making compensation decisions. These include, but are not limited to the candidate’s experience, education, licensure and / or certifications, geographic location, market demands, and other business and organizational needs.

    The expected compensation range for this position is $52 / hr - $60 / hr . This estimation is not inclusive of our full range, and actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

    Salary : $52 - $60
