Animal Care of Davis County is currently hiring for a full-time Veterinarian in Fruit Heights, Utah. This position focuses on the overall health and well-being of animals at Animal Care of Davis County. The Veterinarian is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing illness and injury, as well as alleviating suffering. They play a key role in providing medical care, conducting routine exams, administering vaccinations, performing surgeries, and managing both acute and chronic health conditions. The Veterinarian contributes to the shelter's efforts to improve animal welfare through preventive care, health education, and working closely with staff to ensure the best outcomes for all animals in our care. Pay Range And Benefits

$101,106.03 - $155,929.53, annually

  • Salary based on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM).

Must possess and maintain a valid Veterinarian license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Utah.

Must obtain USDA Category I certification, a controlled substance license issued by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing and a DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) License within the first month of employment.

Preference for work experience in a low cost clinic, high volume spay/neuter clinic, animal shelter or rescue.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a compassionate and experienced Veterinarian with a strong commitment to animal welfare, who is adaptable and able to do more with less. They possess excellent diagnostic and surgical skills and are comfortable working with a wide range of species, including cats, dogs, occasional livestock, and small animals. Given the limited resources and equipment available, the candidate must be resourceful, able to think creatively, and make the most out of the tools at hand to provide the best care possible.

In addition to their medical expertise, the ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, working collaboratively with shelter staff and volunteers to ensure optimal care for animals. They should be proactive in educating staff and the public about preventive care and animal health. The candidate should also be able to manage multiple cases efficiently, perform routine and emergency procedures, and maintain a high standard of care despite resource constraints.

Day to Day Duties

  • Evaluates health and nutritional status of shelter animals on a daily basis and reviews reports from staff regarding concerns with animals' health.
  • Conducts examinations and diagnostic procedures for injured and ill animals.
  • Determines treatment plans and need for continued care; administers medications and conducts routine health care procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex technical emergency and surgical procedures. Surgical procedures include, but are not limited to, spaying/neutering, leg amputations, eye enucleations, wound repairs, entropion repairs, dental care and extractions.
  • Monitors progress of animals receiving treatment to ensure continued progress and complete recovery.
  • Responds to medical emergencies, stabilize animals in critical condition, and provide urgent care when needed.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records for all animals in the shelter, documenting diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes.
  • Administers and monitors the use of controlled substances as required by and in compliance with state regulations, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and other applicable federal regulations.
  • Coordinates care with external veterinarians or specialists when necessary for advanced diagnostics or treatments beyond the shelter's capabilities.
  • Provides on and off-site vaccination clinic services for the public.
