What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supported Learning Program Instructor, The Naylor Learning Center position at Davis & Elkins College?
The Supported Learning Program Instructor directly reports to the Director of The Naylor Learning Center at Davis & Elkins College. The position will begin August 1, 2025 and is an ongoing fulltime ten-month position paid over twelve months. The Supported Learning Program Instructor works with students with varying disabilities and learning differences. This position provides both individual and group support inside and outside of the classroom environment. Work completed in this role promotes the retention and matriculation of students with disabilities at D&E.
- Establish rapport and a good working relationship with assigned students.
- Schedule and facilitate weekly meetings with assigned students to discuss/evaluate academic, independent, and social skills progress.
- Document work completed with assigned students via both written and electronic case note methods.
- Develop and evaluate individual academic plans and goals with assigned students.
- Draft reports related to academic progress at both the midterm mark and the end of the semester for assigned students.
- Facilitate/support the academic advising process for assigned students and their academic advisors.
- Review provided disability documentation (IEP, 504 Plan, Psychoeducational Assessment, etc.) for assigned students to develop/administer individualized support.
- Coordinate and refer students to both internal and external resources, including but not limited to: tutoring/writing support, Student Employment, Career Services, Community Care of West Virginia, and/or state Offices of Vocational Rehabilitation.
- Communicate student progress to key stakeholders, including the Director of The Naylor Learning Center, D&E faculty members, and/or parents of assigned students.
- Assist in teaching FND 165 – Study Skills for Success and complete required grading procedures.
- Provide exam monitoring, scribing, reading, and, when needed, the scheduling, as well as returning of exams provided within The Naylor Learning Center.
- Complete other duties as requested/assigned.

- Knowledge of disability law (ADA, Sections 504 and 508 of the National Rehabilitation Act)

- Strong interviewing and counseling skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- A completed master’s degree by the above start date is required in Counseling, Education, Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field.
