JOB SUMMARY:
To effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of the Center store department including customer service, department conditions, profitability, staff supervision, productivity and workplace conditions. Maintain strong Center Store operations including accurate and efficient receiving, expense control, buying, merchandising of product and consistently delivering and promoting phenomenal customer service. This position upholds management best practices, develops and mentor's department personnel, adheres to labor guidelines and ensures others maintain compliance with policy and procedures by establishing clear expectations. They help advance Davis Food Co-op’s Ends statement alignment in the present and for future growth and development.
This is a full-time position requiring up to 40 hours per week. Employee must be available to match the business needs and will be required to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Development
- Participates in the leadership of the Co-op as a member of the Operations Team.
- Attends or sends an informed representative to weekly store huddles. Presents pertinent information such as department sales and updates.
- Holds and mediates weekly department huddles, informing staff on sales, efficiency goals, safety, events or any other pertinent information.
- Stay up to date on sales forecast, labor ratios, labor compliance, preventative maintenance schedules and project deadlines.
- Develop and lead team to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all operational processes.
- Ensure all new items and price updates are submitted to Pricing Manager. Stay up to date on margin target percentages for categories and subcategories in center store.
- Store Operations and Customer Service
DFC Job Description

- Work with the store team to bring in new products for the store. Communicate arrival of these new items to respective department manager(s). Ensure new items are put into Catapult and slot them according to DFC merchandising guidelines in a timely manner.
- Maintain working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals.
- Meet labor, sales, shrink and margin goals, communicate relevant sales, shrink, margin and labor goals to staff on a regular basis, and communicate standards, expectations, policy changes and product knowledge to staff.
- Attend management team meetings and come prepared to share information related to center store.
- Meet the established goals for margin, labor costs, sales and inventory.
- Work with Operations Manager to develop annual operating budget, capital budget, and equipment needs.
- Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
- Model, provide and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services and in a professional manner that markets our cooperative advantage.
- Communicate with Front End team on a daily basis to status on staffing needs and coordinate need for back up cashiers if necessary.
- Ordering and Pricing
- In coordination with Operations Manager, negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.
- Purchase products and supplies for department according to store guidelines.
- Ensure adequate supply of products keeping out of stocks to a minimum.
- Receive and process orders to ensure food quality and safety. Check the condition and invoice accuracy on all deliveries.
- Ensure correct product rotation.
- Review invoices for accuracy, price changes, and product additions. Process updates with pricing.
- Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers when needed and ensure that staff know how to do the same.
- Ensure accurate up-to-date price labeling of department items.
- Work with Chief Financial Officer to establish prices based on margin goals.
- Sanitation, Safety and Security
- Ensure the department operates in compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Ensure that Center Store display units, coolers, work areas, storage areas, and floors are in clean and orderly condition and meet all Health Department requirements.
- Ensure staff is following safety, sanitation and security procedures.
- Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Davis Food Co-op patrons at all times.
- Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor
without delay.

- Handle all store equipment with care; observe all safety precautions and assist others in doing so.
- Follow DFC safety policy at all times and assist in maintaining all areas of the store in safe condition.
- Report unsafe, or potentially unsafe conditions.
- Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked, rotated, fronted, and faced. Set stocking priorities for department staff. Stock items as needed.
- Ensure proper shelf tags and sale signs are on shelves and displays.
- Plan attractive displays. Coordinate displays and specials with other leads and managers.
- Cross merchandise products with other departments.
- Responsible for ensuring all merchandising functions are completed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED certificate preferred. Two years' experience in a large scale, professional grocery industry and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Computer skills required: Word, Excel, email, shared calendar, Google Suite, CATAPULT web.
