Non-Operations Pay Class A: $17.92-$25.50
JOB SUMMARY:
As a member of the Point of Sale team of the Davis Food Co-op, the Point-of-Sale Specialist works under the supervision of the Point-of-Sale Manager to perpetuate and support an organized and smooth-running store. They coordinate and execute all aspects of data entry & item promotions in an accurate, efficient manner. They effectively comply with all aspects of the store including customer service, department conditions, profitability, productivity, and workplace conditions while understanding and upholding the Davis Food Co-op’s End Statements.
This is a full-time position. Employees must be available to meet business needs and will be required to work evenings & weekends as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Customer Service Responsibilities - exceed our customers’ expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all in accordance with the DFC's customer service standards.
- Greet and offer assistance to customers. Demonstrate excellent customer service at all times.
- Demonstrate proper phone etiquette and delivery of messages.
- Know store layout and know which products belong to which departments.
- Be able to explain the benefits of Co-op membership. Understand and be able to explain the difference between a cooperative and other businesses.
- Department Responsibilities:
- Maintaining all aspects of data entry, reporting and auditing.
- All aspects of promotional entry and signage, ensuring that timelines are met, and related tasks assigned to co-workers are done correctly.
- Maintaining all Co op Deals, Weekly Specials, Monthly Specials, Co op Basics, Manager Specials, Owners Extras etc.
- Provide data and materials to staff members in accordance with promotions and daily submission schedule.
- Enter submission data and promotions into Catapult point of sale software accurately and on-time.
- Ensure all new items, updates and database worksheets are entered consistently and accurately.
- Maintain auditing standards as set by supervisor.
- Maintain promotional data across various internal tools and resources.
- Ensure that errors regarding item information or promotions are identified and rectified, and that items scan as advertised.
- Provide support to Store Operations teams to ensure that daily tag and sign changes are done correctly and on time.
- Provide assistance to staff with questions and problems regarding item scanning, signage and tags.
- Actively clean and improve Catapult inventory database. Restructure or modify database information when assigned by supervisor.
- Lead in implementation of Catapult added functionality as assigned by supervisor, ensuring that appropriate communication takes place with impacted departments.
- Maintain knowledge of different barcode types and PLUs and utilize appropriately.
- Understand and maintain working knowledge of weights and measures requirements as they pertain to label information and formatting.
- Maintain current knowledge of California sales tax law and California Redemption Value (CRV) and ensure that inventory items are setup and flagged appropriately.
- Maintain current knowledge of EBT and WIC regulations and ensure that inventory items are available to purchase within program standards.
- Have knowledge of different promotional programs and be able to troubleshoot and assist as needed.
- Process POS daily requests when assigned according to schedule, ensuring that products are accurately entered and have appropriate defaults and setup. Clean existing item records as they are processed.
- Understand and maintain knowledge of scale-related software, hardware, and supplies.
- Provide data support, analysis and reporting to departments when asked by supervisor.
- Maintain POS data and financial confidentiality.
- Follow implemented audit schedule to validate pricing accuracy and proper labeling of products.
- Provide assistance to other managers when asked by supervisor, as well as receive and respond in a timely fashion to any necessary support tickets. If a supervisor is unavailable, use good judgement to determine if assistance can be given.
- When appropriate, take action regarding POS technology issues and contact ECR Support when needed to resolve them.
- Provide excellent customer service both externally and internally both on and off the sales floor.
- Specialist Duties:
- Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when the shift begins.

- Ensure department and back-stock areas are maintained in clean, orderly condition, following all guidelines.

- Avoid injury; demonstrate proper lifting techniques and follow proper steps in the event of an injury.
- Follow accepted food safety practices.
- Handle all store equipment with care; observe all safety precautions and assist others in doing so.
- Follow DFC safety policy at all times and assist in maintaining all areas of the store in safe condition.
- Report unsafe, or potentially unsafe conditions.
- Staff Relations:
- Maintain professional working relationship standards within department. Assist co-workers with interpersonal problem solving where/when appropriate.
- Abide by all DFC policy and procedures as specified in the DFC Employee Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
