Employment Consultants assist clients in securing and independently maintaining employment by offering individualized, ongoing support at various employment sites. The role focuses on helping clients achieve the highest level of independence in their jobs, ensuring long-term success, and supporting future employment opportunities. Employment Consultants assess each client’s suitability for various jobs and help them prepare for specific occupations by identifying personal goals, overcoming barriers, and developing leadership skills.
In addition to helping clients identify employment opportunities, Employment Consultants create individualized career plans. They also advocate for clients by identifying and facilitating necessary workplace supports to ensure successful integration into the workforce.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct Comprehensive Interviews: Assess clients' skills, interests, and employment goals to determine suitable job opportunities.
- Mentor Clients: Provide guidance and encouragement throughout the job search process, helping clients stay motivated.
- Educate on Job Readiness: Teach essential job readiness skills such as resume writing, interview techniques, and professional communication.
- Collaborate with Community Organizations: Partner with local organizations to create employment opportunities and connect clients with potential employers.
- Provide Tailored Training: Develop and deliver training that cater to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring skill development and confidence-building.
- Stay Informed on Labor Laws: Keep up-to-date with employment labor laws and advocate for clients' rights to ensure compliance and equitable treatment.
- Record Client Progress: Maintain accurate and detailed records of clients' progress, job search activities, and outcomes to monitor success.
- Create Coaching and Employment Plans: Develop personalized career plans that outline goals, strengths, weaknesses, and strategies for job search and retention.
- Assess Individual Strengths and Needs: Evaluate clients’ skills, experiences, interests, and barriers to identify the most suitable job options and accommodations.
- Provide Job Search Assistance: Help clients with resume writing, cover letter creation, interview preparation, and networking strategies to improve job search effectiveness.
- Offer Ongoing Support: Provide continuous encouragement and assistance to help clients overcome challenges and maintain motivation throughout the job search process.
- Advocate for Clients: Represent clients to employers and other stakeholders, ensuring they have access to opportunities, resources, and accommodations as needed.
- Monitor and Evaluate Progress: Regularly track client progress and adjust coaching plans to ensure that clients remain on track to achieve their career goals.
- Maintain Confidentiality and Professionalism: Handle sensitive client information with the utmost confidentiality and maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
- Stay Informed About the Job Market: Keep updated on job openings, industry trends, and employer needs to effectively guide clients and ensure access to suitable opportunities.
- Help Clients Identify Personal Goals and Employment Opportunities: Assist clients in identifying career goals, overcoming personal barriers, and developing leadership and work maturity skills.
- Teach Job Tasks: Guide clients through specific job-related tasks to ensure they are prepared for their roles and able to transition smoothly into the workplace.
- Workplace Supports: Identify and facilitate any necessary accommodations or supports that may be needed for clients to succeed in their employment.
- Data Collection and Evaluation: Use data collection methods to track and assess the effectiveness of workplace supports, making adjustments as needed to ensure success.

Qualifications:
- Education:Associate Degree in Human Resources; Psychology or a related field, or High School Diploma with at least 2 years of experience as an employment consultant, job coach, or employment specialist.
- Experience: Prior experience in recruitment, EC, or employment law is advantageous.
- Certifications: Certifications in employment services or related fields are a plus but not mandatory.
