What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Project Engineer position at Dawson Construction?
Position Summary
Assists the Project Manager and Project Superintendent with a variety of project, managerial and administrative functions on construction projects.
Essential Functions
1. Field Support
- Assigned to and works at a specific job site, or multiple sites, to provide field, technical and administrative support to the Project Manager and Project Superintendent.
- Builds relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers; coordinates subcontractors and suppliers.
- Learns to produce and track contracts with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
- Learns safety regulations and participates in audits to ensure safety is an everyday topic and supersedes all other factors to prevent accidents and create a safe working environment for everyone.
2. Project Technical Support
- Learns bidding process, including conducting material take-offs and soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Collects and tracks RFI’s and submittals.
- Assists with building and updating project schedules.
- Maintains and distributes current project plans and specifications; Reviews shop drawings and submittals.
- Prepares and coordinates change orders.
3. Project Administrative Support
- Ensures communication is clear among all parties, including composing and preparing correspondence.
- Collects and processes purchase orders. Assists in the ordering of materials and supplies.
- Assists with permitting issues, as necessary.
- Schedules jobsite meetings and records/maintains minutes for meetings.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of the construction industry from work experience or classes, specifically commercial and industrial general contracting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on customer service. Ability to speak clearly and articulate using proper grammar.
- Ability to maintain a good attendance record.
- Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel and Word).
- Skilled working in scheduling (Phoenix) and PDF mark-up (BlueBeam) software.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred
- Up to 3 years of project engineering experience on commercial or industrial projects.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation - $75,000 to $90,000 annual salary.
- Annual Bonus; depends upon individual and company performance.
