What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney position at Dawson County?
The Dawson County Attorney’s Office in Lexington, Nebraska, is seeking applications for two full-time Deputy County Attorney positions. Interested persons must be licensed to practice law in the State of Nebraska.
These positions provide regular courtroom/trial experience and the opportunity to work closely with other seasoned attorneys.
Primary duties for one of the positions include criminal prosecution of adult felony and misdemeanor cases and handling some juvenile court matters. Additional duties include covering assigned on-call periods to answer after-hours legal questions from law enforcement and respond to coroner matters.
Primary duties for the other attorney position include handling child support enforcement cases and all civil matters involving Dawson County including providing legal advice to the county board of commissioners and other elected county officials as needed.
Starting salary is $98,000 to $105,000; negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. Nebraska Bar Association dues and expense to obtain required annual continuing legal education hours are paid by the county. This employment qualifies you to apply for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program to assist with student loan repayment. County benefit package, including paid holidays, graduated PTO, employee health insurance and retirement plan, is also provided.
