Day Environmental, Inc. located in Rochester, New York is seeking an Environmental Professional to fill a full-time position. Work will primarily be within the Industrial Compliance Group of the company, with crossover work into other groups of the company as needed (refer to www.dayenvironmental.com for a summary of the services that Day Environmental, Inc. provides).
The position will have the following responsibilities and requirements:
· The applicant is expected to have a solid science background, be able to analyze and interpret field and analytical data, have good technical writing skills, good verbal communication skills, and be able to use Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare reports with various table and chart attachments for review by Project Managers prior to client and/or regulatory agency submittals. Organization, thoroughness, field documentation skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects at once (often unassisted), are critical to the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Support the compliance group’s clients with assisting in the preparation of Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans; Storm Water Pollution Prevention / Best Management Practices Plans; air, wastewater and stormwater permits; compiling and interpreting monitoring data; and developing reports for submittal to regulatory agencies for industrial clients.
· Understand existing regulations and continually review new and proposed regulations as they relate to industrial clients.
· Maintain relationships with existing clients; communicate results of analyses internally and externally in verbal and written form.
· Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM Standards. Preferred applicants will meet minimum qualification to meet the role of an Environmental Professional as defined by ASTM (e.g., have a Bachelor’s Degree with 5-years of relevant full-time experience).
Other work responsibilities will be dependent upon the applicant’s skills and capabilities, but may include:
· Supporting other DAY groups with field work and environmental monitoring, and assisting with preparing reports with various table and chart attachments for review by Project Managers prior to client and/or regulatory agency submittals.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
· Proficiency in MS Office Word and Excel, willingness to learn Access and PowerPoint.
· Solid science background, with ability to review regulations and permits and interpret requirements
· Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
· Planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet project deadlines.
· Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate in a consultative manner with project team members and clients
· Self-initiative and motivation with an emphasis on client service
· A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs
· Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from DAY, now or in the future
· Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Ideally, you’ll also have
· Successful completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training
· License or certification (or progress toward) as an EIT or P.E. licensed engineer, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or similar to qualify as an Environmental Professional as defined by ASTM
· Experience within the following areas: Familiarity with multi-media environmental regulations including CAA, CWA, RCRA, SPCC, CERCLA, EPCRA and/or TSCA
· Experience with technical writing (i.e., regulatory compliance plans, stormwater inspection reports, proposals).
· Effective demonstrated presentation skills.
