JOB SUMMARY :
The Chaplain will provide spiritual and emotional support for the patients, families and staff of Day Kimball Healthcare in accordance with their needs. The Chaplain also provides spiritual support to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern CT patients and their families.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Primary responsibility for the provision of pastoral care for in-patients, oncology, emergency room patients and Hospice and Palliative Care patients and their families
- On call as needed
- Responds to codes and emergencies when in house and when on call
- Charts in-patient and oncology visits appropriately
- Makes sure that Hospice pastoral visits are appropriately recorded in the electronic chart
- Provides for and models confidentiality in all areas of patient / family and staff support
- Assists the Coordinator in the preparation of the Annual Report
- Assists in planning and coordinating continuing education programs for community clergy, staff, volunteers, and laity as needed
- Supports and ministers to staff as requested and needed, including attending departmental meetings when asked and participating in Critical Incident Debriefing when necessary
- Assists Coordinator in acting as liaison with Roman Catholic priests and Eucharistic Ministers
- Covers all clinical areas pastorally
- Optional : Works as a Notary Public and as an educator and advocate with patients and families and medical staff regarding Living Wills and Advance Directives
- Completes annual departmental quality initiatives, including filing paperwork and reports
- Completes annual departmental training
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
Promotes the Pastoral Care Services Department's mission, which is to provide spiritual care and nurture to those who provide services to, and those who receive services from Day Kimball Healthcare and Hospice and Palliative Care of NE CT.
Demonstrates competency in utilizing resources to accommodate cultural needs of patients and customers such as dietary, religious and language needs.
Demonstrates efforts to maintain and improve job specific competencies. Incorporates new knowledge into practice.
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
Remains flexible in work schedule in order to provide the most effective and efficient support for the department and hospital mission.
Although position has no responsibility for the treatment of patients, demonstrates ability to communicate and interact with patients and customers of all ages.
