- Maintains and operates Clinical Lab equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory policy. Interprets results and provides appropriate feedback when results are abnormal or per special request.
- Accurately identifies patient samples and accessions them into Laboratory Information System using correct account numbers and test alpha codes.
- Uses and disposes of hazardous and bio hazardous materials as stated in laboratory policies and State and Federal Guidelines.
- Runs controls and understands the importance of controls to verify the quality of testing before releasing results.
- Provides phlebotomy services to patients during shift as needed.
- ASCP Medical Technologist | MLT or AMT Medical Technologist Required.
- 5 years of experience in a hospital lab preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including but not limited to, order entry, inquiry and specimen tracking.
- Excellent communication skills including telephone, written correspondence, speaking, and critical value reporting.
- Knowledge of OSHA and those regulations relating to the use of hazardous chemicals used throughout the Laboratory.
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
- Applies principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deals with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Able to examine and evaluate data and present alternative actions. Can give and receive assignments and/or directions to and from hospital staff. Needs to use body or appropriate tools and work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials in situations where ultimate responsibility for the attainment of standards occur and selection of appropriate tools, objects or materials and the adjustment of the tools to the task requiring exercise of considerable judgment.
