Job Summary
Performs the receptionist and clerical duties of the Operating Room while functioning as the focal communication source in the Nursing Station.
OR Booking Assistant Job Responsibilities :
- Monitors all persons entering the OR suite for correct attire and diplomatically maintains traffic patterns as designated by OR policy.
- Acts as means of communication in the Operating Room regarding all patient care activities, patient location, and is able to provide information and direction regarding the same.
- Functions as communication focus during emergency situations, STAT requests and orders.
- Answers pages of physicians present in unit and establishes priority messages warranting interruption of surgical procedure.
- Prepares and maintains statistics, charges, booking diaries, and operating logbook.
- Schedules surgical procedures and communicates information to admitting office and ACU when appropriate. Takes bookings for add-on and emergency surgical procedures communicating that information to surgeons, staff and departments involved.
- Enters patient data information into the computerized OR Information System for patient billing purposes using appropriate CPT codes.
- Types the OR schedule maintaining accurate patient information.
- Notifies physicians and staff of OR time and any changes should they occur.
- Operates and manages mainframe computer, PC, printer, Fax equipment and performs a variety of office procedures, i.e., data input, filing and record keeping.
- Performs project work when required.
