Daybreak is looking for a Housing Assistant to assist in our mission of providing Miami Valley homeless and vulnerable youth and young adults with services that promote safety, stability, and well-being. This position will play a role in achieving our vision of a promising future for all youth.

Position Summary
Provide operational and youth-centered support within the Housing Program to assist youth and young adults (YYAs) experiencing homelessness. Utilizing the Housing First for Youth approach, help YYAs achieve housing stability by balancing operational responsibilities with individualized, strengths-based engagement. Ensure efficient program operations while fostering positive client outcomes, emphasizing self-sufficiency, community integration, and long-term stability. Collaborate actively with team members to meet client needs, achieve program goals, and ensure maintain consistent adherence to policies and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Program Operations and Housing Support
Associate's Degree (A.A.) in Human Services or related field from an accredited institution is required. Bachelor's degree in Human Services preferred.
At least two (2) years of experience working directly with YYAs, preferably those experiencing homelessness or housing instability, required.
It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Once a conditional offer of employment has been given, Daybreak requires that all prospective employees sign a background check release form and pass pre-employment testing before a start date may be given.
Background Check
Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks.
The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include:
If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.
Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.

Program Operations and Housing Support
- Coordinate housing-related tasks, including schedule moves, eviction prevention efforts, and ensuring units are move-in ready for YYAs. This includes conducting pre-move-in inspections, collaborating with Facilities, landlords, and community partners to resolve any issues, and providing move-in supplies and orientation to ensure a smooth transition for clients.
- Locate and secure housing opportunities by building and maintaining relationships with landlords. Collaborate with Case Managers and YYAs to define housing needs, establish realistic budgets, and educate YYAs on tenant rights and responsibilities.
- Oversee the Daybreak Dollar Pantry and Medford Community Pantry, ensuring they remain well-stocked, organized, and compliant with Dayton FoodBank standards. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate temperature logs, proper food storage, and using PantryTrak.
- Manage the purchasing of incentive items for the Daybreak Dollar Passport program and ensure the catalog is current and engaging for participants.
- Orient eligible participants to the Housing Program, providing housing search support and guidance to promote self-sufficiency and integration into the community.
- Assist the client's service team in delivering housing-focused services rooted in Housing First for Youth principles, ensuring clients are rapidly placed in stable housing without preconditions.
- Provide support in fostering life skill development, social skill enhancement, and housing stability by completing assigned tasks that promote client independence and resilience.
- Accompany YYAs to appointments such as court dates, SSI hearings, and other critical engagements providing advocacy and support as directed by the Case Manager.
- Support the implementation of Individualized Treatment Plans by coordinating and carrying out assigned activities to address client needs and promote progress toward goals.
- Assist in orienting and training new Housing Program employees to ensure they are equipped to fulfill their roles effectively.
- Provide coverage in Opportunity House as needed, ensuring a safe, supportive, and structured environment for residents while assisting with daily operations and addressing client needs.
- Maintain a minimum of 20 hours of monthly productivity according to standards set by Senior Management by providing individual and group services, as appropriate.
