Daybreak is looking for a Case Aide to assist in our mission of providing Miami Valley homeless and vulnerable youth with services that promote safety, stability, and well-being. This position will play a role in achieving our vision of a promising future for all youth.

About Us : Daybreak was established in 1975 in Dayton, Ohio as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Today, Daybreak operates the Miami Valley's only 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency youth shelter and has grown to include outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, and other follow-up services for runaway, throwaway, and homeless youth.

Position Responsibilities :

Support for Case Management and Client Services

  • Assist the Case Manager in delivering housing-focused services rooted in Housing First for Youth principles, ensuring clients are rapidly placed in stable housing without preconditions.
  • Provide support in fostering life skills development, social skills enhancement, and housing stability by completing assigned tasks that promote client independence and resilience.
  • Accompany YYAs to appointments such as court dates, SSI hearings, and other critical engagements, providing advocacy and support as directed by the Case Manager.
  • Help develop and maintain schedules for clients to track activities and appointments, ensuring follow-through and consistency.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Treatment Plans by coordinating and carrying out assigned activities to address client needs and promote progress toward goals.
  • Assist in preparing clients for transitioning out of services, including helping develop exit plans and providing after-care support as directed by the Case Manager.

Collaboration and Team Coordination

  • Actively collaborate with the Case Manager and other service team members to provide individualized, youth-centered support.
  • Follow through on tasks delegated by the Case Manager, ensuring timely completion and addressing client barriers effectively.
  • Maintain regular communication with internal and external service providers to ensure alignment with client goals and treatment plans.
  • Participate in team meetings as requested, providing updates on assigned tasks and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.
  • Program Support and Compliance

  • Help organize and facilitate client activities and life skills training as directed by the Case Manager to support program service delivery.
  • Ensure all services and interactions with clients adhere to trauma-informed, youth-centered, and strength-based approaches in alignment with Housing First for Youth principles.
  • Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain a minimum of 64 hours of monthly productivity according to standards set by Senior Management by providing individual and groups services, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate client records in compliance with agency procedures and funder requirements, ensuring all documentation is completed within 72 hours as per agency standards.
  • Education and / or experience :

    Associate's Degree (A.A.) in Human Services or related field from an accredited institution is required. Bachelor's degree in Human Services preferred.

    At least two (2) years of experience working directly with youth / young adults, preferably those experiencing homelessness or housing instability, required.

    It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Once a conditional offer of employment has been given, Daybreak requires that all prospective employees sign a background check release form and pass pre-employment testing before a start date may be given.

    Background Check

    Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks.

  • Federal Exclusion databases including :
  • National Sex Offender Registry

  • Office Inspector General (OIG)
  • Nurse Aide Registry
  • of Developmental Disabilities (DODD)
  • Motor Vehicle Report
  • Pre-employment Testing

    The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include :

  • A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing)
  • A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing)
  • Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed.

    If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.

    Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.
