The Lifestyle & Fitness Coach Associate Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each resident to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each residents’ ability. This individual will take the lead on Special Olympic Events & Coordinating Miracle League Teams for each season. Days and hours vary based on sporting events and campus activities. Overall, classes will be conducted Monday-Friday with flex time for weekend activities.
They are responsible for assisting in the development and oversight of resident services, including planning and coordinating opportunities for residents that promote a level of health, wellbeing, engagement and growth. The main focus will be prompting residents for class, planning and implementing curriculum, teaching classes as scheduled. While most classes will be conducted in a classroom setting, this role must be flexible in the time and place.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in planning, scheduling and conducting activities and classes that provide physical, intellectual, social, vocational, emotional and spiritual opportunities for the residents.
- Organizing both practical and theoretical lessons and curriculum.
- Teach sports such as football, soccer, tennis and bocci, while also teaching nutrition and health-related topics in the classroom. Coordinate field day and evening events to ensure resident engagement. Take lead on Special Olympic Events & Coordinating Miracle League Teams for each season.
- Develop and implement healthy living skills and field trips to assist residents in developing their independent living skills along with healthy habits. (i.e. healthy eating and meal planning in a public setting)
- Supports residents in cottage environment in areas such as activities of daily living and roommate etiquette.
- Communicates effectively with residents, managers and other co-workers.
- Promotes resident independence while also providing appropriate levels of support.
- Completes notes in Lifeloop and Teams to document resident behavior and progress.
- Interacts with residents, guests and staff professionally with great customer service.
- Protects the privacy of the resident when communicating oral and written information.
- Is punctual for assigned work shift and follows all required attendance policies.
- Dresses and presents themselves professionally at all times.

Education Requirements and experience
- Minimum Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
- One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preference for bachelor's degree and training/experience in Special Education, Activity Therapy, Recreation Therapy, and Music Therapy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Language Ability:
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking the primary language of the residents.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
Cognitive Demands:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
Ability to use Microsoft Windows and Office. Ability to use software to design calendars and signs. Ability to use the Internet.
Competencies (Example):
Ability to operate a car/truck and maintain a valid driver’s license. Ability to operate general office equipment.

Works both indoors and outdoors
