Pay Scale: Pay is based off education, experience, and certification level. Levels are; Peer Support/Para Professional: $16-$17/hr.
AP:$17-$20/hr.
QP:$21.63-$23.07/hr.
Available Shifts: 8am-5pm or 1pm-10pm.
Summary: This position is part of our Mecklenburg Behavioral Health Urgent Care with primary responsibilities as a SOAR Benefits Specialist and Behavioral Health Tech. SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) is a model that helps individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness who have a serious mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder apply for Social Security disability benefits. The position is also responsible for providing support and care to meet the physical and psychological needs of consumers through providing direct and indirect care. BHUC is a 24-hour behavioral health urgent care service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in the community or office and meet individuals experiencing homelessness to complete interviews and gather information to complete SSI/SSDI applications. This will include gathering medical records and other information to complete SSI/SSDI applications
- Coordinate and accompany individuals to the social security office, visits to medical doctors, psychiatrists, and other specialists to obtain evidence for the application.
- Provides supervision and monitoring of each consumer. Assist with and model appropriate daily living skills.
- Document any reported or observed symptoms of consumers and report to the team.
- Participate in Shift Report and Coordination with Community Stakeholders
- Complete necessary trainings
- Provide transportation as needed
Special Attributes: Strong interpersonal skills and belief in consumer’s ability to recover. Minimal supervision regarding use of time, able to prioritize work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively with professionals and clients/families. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. A desire to work with individuals with severe mental illness and substance abuse issues.
Education and/or Experience:
Tech I:
- Para Professional services are delivered by staff who have the life experience of being diagnosed with a serious mental illness or substance addiction problem, and are currently in recovery, stable, and living without relapses. The Paraprofessional has a high school diploma, or GED and at least five years of life experience with a serious mental illness or substance addiction.
- Peer Support - Requires Peer Support Certification.
- AP - requires high school diploma and at least one year of appropriate experience. Or Bachelor’s degree in the field with no experience.
Tech II:
- QP- requires bachelor's degree in social work, Counseling or another Human Services field. Qualified Professional (QP) required.
