What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver Education Instructor position at Dayton Area School Consortium?
Job Objectives: To teach students the skills necessary to operate motor vehicles safely and responsibly. The instructors will primarily deliver behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction, may deliver classroom instruction, assess student progress, and instill a sense of responsibility and awareness in aspiring drivers. An exempt, non-supervisory and hourly job on an as-needed basis. May be in addition to a current employee at an hourly rate. Must be available for a flexible schedule based on student needs and may include weekday, weekend, day and evening hours.

SALARY & CONTRACT: $25.00 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
- Meets all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the district's insurance carrier.
- Ability to anticipate and deal with stressful traffic and weather conditions.
- Demonstrates maturity and the ability to work with students.
- In-depth knowledge of state and local traffic laws.
- Must pass BCI/FBI background check. Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
- Experience in teaching or training is preferred.
- Already hold or be willing to complete Training Instructor Licensure certification.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May teach the fundamentals of safe driving, traffic laws, and vehicle maintenance through structured classroom lessons. May also oversee this for students who are taking the coursework online.
- Use multimedia tools, real-life scenarios, and/or simulations to enhance understanding
- Provide hands-on instruction in a dual-control vehicle to teach basic driving maneuvers, parking, and other essential skills.
- Monitor student performance during practice sessions, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
- Keep track of driving records as necessary.
- Ensure all driving sessions are conducted with a focus on safety. Inspects harnesses, restraints, and other safety devices. Immediately corrects or reports unsafe conditions and/or defective equipment.
- Stay updated on state and local driving laws and requirements.
- Comply with all regulations related to driver’s education programs and vehicle use.
- Collaborate with parents or guardians to report student progress and address any concerns.
- Offer tips and strategies to students for continued practice outside of class.
- Transports only authorized passengers.
- Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance.
- Keeps the superintendent informed about emerging issues.
- Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
- Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
