JOB SUMMARY
The Facilities Assistant position at the Dayton Art Institute ensures the appearance and functionality of the museum's facilities, providing a photo-ready environment for clients and staff. The Facilities Assistant plays a fundamental role in maintaining cleanliness, safety, and enhancing the visitor and staff experience. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a pay rate of $17.81 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring cleanliness and replenishing missing items such as paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
- Collect trash from central locations and offices; Vacuum carpeted central locations and offices to maintain a clean and presentable environment.
- Lawn and Landscaping responsibilities contributing to the overall aesthetic appeal.
- Clear and bag debris as needed, maintaining a clean and inviting entrance.
- Regularly check floors for messes that require sweeping or mopping, all while being mindful of the surrounding walls and sculptures.
- Ensures windows are clear with polished appearance.
- Facilitate events by ensuring event spaces are clean beforehand, setting up mop buckets and trash cans near the event area(s), maintaining restroom cleanliness, and cleaning up after the event.
- Operates floor scrubbers and polishers to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the museum's floors.
- Assists in moving and adjusting furniture from offices to storage and vice versa as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Facilities Assistant has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of cleaning protocols and procedures for public spaces.
- Familiarity with safe handling and disposal of waste.
- Proficiency in operating cleaning equipment, including vacuums, air blowers, floor scrubbers, and polishers.
- Ability to use a utility vehicle for transporting items as needed.
- Competence in event setup and facilitation.
- Attention to detail for all tasks performed.
- Strong organizational skills to manage and prioritize daily tasks effectively.
- Sound communication skills to coordinate with staff and event organizers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, ensuring all areas are maintained to a high standard.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule. Many events are on weekends and evenings. Work schedule may vary to accommodate special events schedule.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is performed in a museum setting with indoor and outdoor responsibilities. Outdoor responsibilities require the ability to adapt to the season. The ability to adapt to different physical demands and work environments is essential to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of all museum facilities. Physician demands include vacuuming, scrubbing and polishing floors, and landscaping tools and equipment. The role may occasional involve lifting up to 50 pounds.
