Job Details
This position performs in both the clinical and clerical functions of the clinic. The Medical Assistant position performs routine clinical skills for patient care, which includes taking vital signs, weight, height, and assisting with procedures, as needed. The Medical Assistant is responsible for documenting in EPIC, ensuring that all needed documentation is complete in time for the provider to dictate a note and close an encounter in an expedient manner. The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient flow, chaperoning, stocking of rooms, ordering of tests and supplies. This position is also responsible for appropriate service delegated by the RN, nurse practitioner, or physician. Interacts with other department personnel to maintain timely patient flow to provide appropriate care and quality customer service.
This medical assistant role supports Clinical Nutrition and Lactation, with a primary role supporting Nutrition Clinic at the main campus Specialty Care Center.
Key department-specific duties will include rooming/checking out patients in Nutrition Clinic, obtaining anthropometric measurements, scheduling outpatient nutrition and lactation visits, and engaging in phone and text communication with nutrition and lactation patients. This individual will assist in managing the clinic schedules to maximize utilization, help fill last minute schedule openings and improve access for patients. This individual will also assist with communication with provider offices to obtain growth chart history, nutrition forms completion (certificates of medical necessity for formulas and Women, Infant, and Children program forms), managing outpatient formula samples and expiration dates of items in stock rooms, ordering lactation and office supplies, assistance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, support in onboarding new employees, and obtaining continuing education unit approval for department activities.
This position works under limited supervision with the ability to set priorities and maintain confidentiality and requires excellent organization, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Desired strengths include warmth and positive attitude, self-initiative, willingness to innovate and engage with a team that enjoys quality and process improvement; confident and efficient use of computers, technology, Microsoft Excel, electronic medical record software, patient communication technologies; curiosity and openness to learning new technologies; and accurate grammar and typing skills.
Shift: Monday-Friday 7:30AM - 4:00PM
May occasionally be asked to travel to the Connor Child Health Pavilion or Mathile Center for Mental Health and Wellness (other main campus buildings where we have department staff working).

Department Specific Job Details:
- HSD/GED is required
- Completion of a program in Medical Assisting is required
- CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) or CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant is required
- CPR is preferred at hire, but must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date
