Summary:
The chief of medical physics manages all aspects of physics and dosimetry activities for all Dayton Physicians Network (DPN) clinics and locations. Provides planning and ensuring safe, accurate treatment of patients. The chief of medical physics provides direction about radiation protection, training, and updating healthcare, scientific and technical staff. This position also ensures regulatory compliance and managing radiotherapy quality assurance programs as well as maintaining quality and safety outcomes. Supervises all aspects of personnel management and development. The medical physics director provides transformative leadership, embraces and promotes patient care in physics, and collaboration across ancillary departments. Works directly for the Administrative Director, Operations to deliver safe and appropriate care to our patients.

Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
No weekends, evenings or holidays!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the Medical Physics/Dosimetry section of the Department of Radiation Oncology including hiring and training of medical physicists and medical dosimetrists.
  • Provides consultation services to the physician staff on all clinical medical physics issues.
  • Assist radiation oncologists in OR for radiation oncology procedures.
  • Provides leadership and expertise of physics services across the DPN.
  • Assigns staff and allots workload to meet clinical/department priorities.
  • Develops and implements departmental standards for physics and dosimetry.
  • Provides medical physics clinical and directional support to the department of Radiation Oncology including treatment planning, equipment calibrations, QC and QA measurements, patient dosimetry, and new procedure development.
  • Provides medical physics clinical and directional support to Radioactive Materials program in Radiation Oncology.
  • Ensures, oversees and maintains compliance with applicable state and federal radiation regulations.
  • Provides and Leads the technology assessment, planning and purchase of major equipment.
  • Anticipate future needs for radiation oncology clinic and clinical operations and form and/or assist with capital budget.
  • Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.
  • Supports the Radiation Oncology mission in delivering safe and effective cancer care.
  • Leads/Assists/Participates in the continuous quality improvement process.
  • Mentor and guide the didactic and clinical instructions to the medical dosimetry student intern, in collaboration with University of Wisconsin, La Crosse medical dosimetry program.
  • Maintain continuing education to be current with the changes in radiation oncology & medical physics
  • Reviews radiosurgery, HDR and other complex patient treatment plans for appropriateness.
  • Evaluate/Leads/Assist/Participate with respect to clinical trials involving radiation or radiopharmaceutical.
  • Engage in teaching clinical staff.
  • Participate in Neuro Oncology Tumor Board.
  • Leads and Assists with seeking and maintaining radiation oncology national accreditations/credentialing.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervisory responsibilities of all medical physics/dosimetry personnel.
  • Advisory responsibilities for all RT staff with respect to all clinical operations in RO.

Required Education and/ or Experience:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Medical Physics with specialization in Radiation Oncology and
  • American Board of Radiology Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics and
  • At least 15 years’ experience working in radiation oncology clinic as qualified medical physicist
  • Prior Chief Physicist experience preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of radiation oncology equipment and clinical operations

General Skill Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience working with a Practice Management system.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining normal clinic operations.

Physical/ Mental Demands:

  • Require sitting or standing associated with a normal clinical environment.
  • Ability to operate radiation oncology devices in a safe manner.

Environmental/ Working Conditions:

  • Medical Office/hospital environment.
  • Early morning, evening and weekend work as required.
  • Travel to review technology and attend clinical meetings.
