Job Description
Job Title: Mammal Curator
Reports To: Director of Operations/Owner
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary: $18-$25 (based on experience)
Summary: Responsible for managing the Mammal/Rainforest department staff and daily operations while ensuring the safety and well-being of animals by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Delegates duties to staff as well as supervises and provides instruction as needed.
- Develops and maintains an effective staff through the selection, training, motivation and review of department staff.
- Develops and maintains a program for sound employee relations at all levels of the department.
- Creates exceptional guest experiences through innovative, exciting and inclusive animal-related programming.
- Delivers engaging and empowering interpretive programs to include public conservation conversations, feeding demonstrations, animal shows, and guided tours.
- Develops and oversees high-quality animal care programs for a wide range of mammals and Birds.
- Provides daily supervision and training of Mammal staff to carry out department functions in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Trains staff to work with animals of various sizes, dispositions, and difficulty levels.
- Adheres to and enforces all company policies and procedures paying special attention to health and/or safety procedures pertaining to dangerous animals. Oversees safety drills.
- Oversees the animal care program ensuring health and well-being of animals and staff maintain proper animal handling skills.
- Oversees facilities, equipment, and materials including but not limited to routinely inspecting animal facilities to ensure that they are secure, clean and well-maintained.
- Coordinates the repairs, modifications and improvements to facilities and exhibits.
- Maintains employee work/vacation schedules to ensure staffing needs are met in accordance with company policy and guidelines.
- Monitors inventory and orders janitorial and supplies to maintain operations within the mammal/Rainforest department.
- Participates in animal acquisition, population management programs, and animal enrichment programs.
- Obtains and renews animal permits for the Company as needed.
- Maintains flexible schedule to include weekend, evening and holiday hours.
- Maintains training and USDA and FWC licensing certifications.
- Attends required staff meetings and training.
- Maintains a professional appearance at all times and displays exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) or equivalent from accredited college or university; or four to six years of related experience and/or certification; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of MS Office software.
