Position: Nuclear TechnologistJob Overview:
As a Nuclear Technologist at Daytona Heart Group, you will be responsible for conducting nuclear medicine procedures that help diagnose and treat diseases, particularly those related to the cardiovascular system. You will work with radiopharmaceuticals, operate specialized imaging equipment, and provide patient care during complex procedures. Your role is critical in ensuring the safe handling of radioactive materials, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the medical team in providing effective patient care.Key Responsibilities:
- Radiopharmaceutical Handling and Safety:
- Dispose of radioactive materials in accordance with radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to both patients and healthcare staff.
- Properly store radiopharmaceuticals and ensure their preparation adheres to established safety guidelines.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation intravenously, following the physician’s directions to detect or treat diseases.
- Prepare and stock radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring that all safety measures are in place to minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients.
- Patient Interaction and Support:
- Clearly explain the test procedures and safety precautions to patients, addressing any concerns and providing assistance throughout the procedure.
- Position patients appropriately for nuclear imaging to ensure the highest quality diagnostic results.
- Support patients during the procedure, monitoring their comfort and wellbeing.
- Imaging and Data Collection:
- Operate specialized imaging equipment to detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in the patient’s body, creating high-quality computer-generated or film images for physician interpretation.
- Process cardiac function studies using computer systems to help evaluate heart performance.
- Record and process all test results, maintaining accurate documentation in line with medical protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance and Quality Control:
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of radioisotope and laboratory equipment, ensuring they are functioning correctly.
- Conduct quality control checks on laboratory equipment and imaging devices, including cameras, to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
- Radiation Dosage and Documentation:
- Accurately calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage or the amount of radiopharmaceuticals used, received, and disposed of in patient procedures, in accordance with physician prescriptions.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all procedures, ensuring all data is documented in the system for future review and analysis.
- Collaboration and Training:
- Work closely with the medical team, providing input on diagnostic procedures and ensuring the smooth flow of patient care.
- Train and supervise students or junior nuclear medicine technologists, offering guidance on best practices and radiation safety standards.
- Other Duties:
- Add radioactive substances to biological specimens such as blood, urine, or feces to analyze therapeutic drug or hormone levels.
- Assist in positioning radiation fields and beams during patient treatment, ensuring the most effective approach for disease management.
- Perform all other duties as assigned related to the safe, effective, and accurate use of nuclear medicine technology.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Required:
- Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or equivalent certification in the field of nuclear medicine.
- Strong communication skills to effectively explain complex procedures and maintain clear documentation.
- Detail-oriented and meticulous when handling radioactive materials and performing procedures to ensure all safety standards are met.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, yet still remain an active part of the healthcare team.
- Understanding of radiation safety protocols and regulations to protect patients, staff, and self.
- Preferred:
- Previous experience working in a cardiology-focused nuclear medicine setting.
- Proficiency with medical imaging systems and diagnostic software.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently and maintain precise records.
