JOB SUMMARY
The initial focus of this position is to perform maintenance activities of highway assets and adjacent properties while exercising independent judgment and promoting safe work habits. This position requires specialized skills and/or CDL A/CDL B.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs maintenance activities of highway assets and adjacent properties.
- Operates a variety of heavy duty equipment, vehicles, and tractors as needed.
- Completes vehicle pre/post trip inspections daily to assure vehicles and equipment are safe and in good working order before leaving company premises and upon return.
- Reports any safety issues from pre/post trip inspections immediately to supervisor.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment when required.
- May troubleshoot equipment and make minor repairs as long as they have the knowledge to complete the task safely.
- Recommends changes and improvements to safety and services based on job experience & observations.
- Verifies that the load, tools, equipment, and materials are secured properly before transporting begins.
- Assists with all other right of way maintenance activities as directed.
- Obeys all traffic and safety laws and regulations.
- Maintains a positive public image for the company with appropriate personal conduct.
- Operates company vehicles and equipment in a safe, professional, and courteous manner
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL/SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
- Inspect and remove debris and road kill in travel lanes daily and interchanges weekly
- Inspect all guardrail in zone
- Inspect and repair all Edge/Under Drains
- Inspect and repair all Object Maker and Delineators
- Inspect and repair all signs
- Inspect and repair all (minor) fence damage
- Inspect and clean Drop Inlets
- Inspect and fill hazardous potholes
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in skilled labor working on a highway maintenance crew
- Experienced in DOT Work Zone Traffic Control Safety
- Current CDL B required for some positions with CDL A preferred
- DOT acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (reviewed annually)
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and random drug screening
- Conscientious, detail-oriented, and willing to improve processes
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Rotating on call requirements to be discussed at time of interview, if applicable
- Experience operating a Street Sweeper and Dump Truck a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Variety of work environments including outdoors in all types of weather directly on and near busy highways.
