Pew Research Center seeks an accomplished and visionary executive to join us as the VP of Digital & Communications Strategy, driving our digital presence and ensuring our research reaches diverse audiences in an era of rapid change in the information sphere.
While we are known for the rigor and relevance of our work, it is our deep commitment to communication that truly sets us apart. With 25% of our staff in digital and communications jobs, we are designed to reach audiences at scale and succeed in doing so (roughly 54 million website visitors and hundreds of thousands of media citations last year).

The VP will partner with a transformation-minded executive team to oversee all aspects of digital and communications strategy. Armed with an audience-first mindset, they will work to strengthen our voice across traditional and emerging media and advance our digital product strategy. Successful candidates will share our commitment to impartial, evidence-based analysis and our desire to maintain audience trust through transparency and rigor.
The incoming leader manages a team of 3 direct reports and provides leadership to a talented team of about 40 digital, communications, and media professionals.
Key responsibilities
- Set direction for brand vision, positioning and key messaging to capitalize on unique role in the information marketplace.
- Lead the evolution and execution of a comprehensive audience development strategy to grow our presence across a range of platforms and ensure ongoing relevance and audience engagement.
- Ensure continued excellence in outreach to traditional news media and smart growth in outreach to newer forms of information providers.
- Monitor and evaluate emerging AI technologies and changing media platforms for strategic opportunities and needed pivots.
- Collaborate with the research teams to develop and refine dissemination tactics and digital products that cater to the needs and preferences of a contemporary audience.
- Drive audience growth by analyzing data and user behavior to inform targeted engagement strategies.
- Foster strong, collaborative working relationships across a multi-faceted, 40-person communications team which handles outreach, dissemination, web development and production.
- Build cooperative relationships with research colleagues to ensure alignment and productivity.
- Exemplify outstanding leadership and management skills with a focus on respect, collaboration, openness, accountability, and community building.
- Serve as a member of a high-functioning executive team that includes the President, EVP, VP Research and VP Methods & Innovation. Help set institutional priorities, representing the work to the Center board, and liaising with the parent organization.
- Work effectively with internal and external funding partners to ensure effective and smooth collaboration around dissemination goals.

Location and Starting Salary
Full-Time, hybrid schedule with two (2) days a week in-person at 901 E Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20004 and remaining hours remote or in-person as preferred.
The starting salary for this position is based on compensation market data and candidate experience. The starting salary typically falls in the range of $250,000 - $270,000 annually.
