INTRODUCTION
This position is located in the District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG), Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy (CGYCA), District of Columbia Government Operations. The mission of CGYCA is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of 16-18-year-old high school dropouts to produce program graduates with the values, life-skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as productive citizens.
The mission of DCGO is to provide exceptional customer support to DCNG, while serving the District, and the community. “Working Together Towards Tomorrow”.
The position functions as a Cadre Shift Supervisor responsible for the direct supervision, care, and safety of the youth assigned to the residential program through strict adherence to established policies, procedures, and rules in the performance of daily activities.

Major Duties
Oversees the general supervision and welfare of Cadets. Ensures the care and safety of youth assigned to the team; enforces security procedures.
Monitors youth behavior and maintains awareness of Cadets' emotional and physical needs. Maintains group control and observes for signs of problems and issues.
Shares in encouraging Cadets to assess their potential, recognize their talents and abilities, help to develop an optimistic outlook on their life purposes, formulate plans of action in the service of these purposes, and proceed to their realization.
Coordinates and directs the training activities of the cadets. Supervises and participates in physical training and other sporting and cultural activities.
Maintains logs and other documentation of daily activities conducted within the CGYCA.
Instructs Cadets in selected military activities such as drills and ceremonies, military courtesy, standards of conduct, duty assignments, etc.
Provides counseling as needed. Resolves differences among residents and intervenes in youth altercations.
Conducts inspections of work and residential facilities to maintain compliance with safety guidelines and federal and local regulations.
Provides guidance and direction to Team Leaders assigned to Cadets to ensure pertinent information, training, etc. is communicated properly.
Works with other shift supervisors, case managers, and other team members on planning and implementing schedules and activities.
Ensures Cadets are transported to various activities and appointments and is also responsible for transporting them as scheduled.
Qualifications
General knowledge of local, State, and Federal laws and regulations that govern the overall Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Program.
Knowledge of the function and role of the Youth ChalleNGe Academy and the military organization and structure, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrated ability and experience in instructing and supervising a team in a highly structured military-driven environment.
Ability to exhibit required physical strength and agility in carrying out physical restraint procedures, when necessary.
Strong communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with others.
Work Environment
Work involves some exposure to hazardous conditions when working outside with cadets, which may result in injury. The work environment has the normal risks and discomforts due to the physical surroundings, or the nature of the work assigned, and the safety regulations required at CGYCA.

This position is classified as “Protection Sensitive” due to the position’s duties and responsibilities.
Protective Sensitive positions are positions with duties and responsibilities that require caring for or ensuring the well-being of patients, elders, or other vulnerable persons.
The Cadre Shift Supervisor duties involve being responsible for the care, safety, emotional and physical needs, and overall well-being of the youth (cadets) under CGYCA’s supervision.
Must participate in IDT and annual training with assigned unit.
The work requires flexible schedules (evenings, nights, and weekends).
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
The incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle license.
The incumbent must possess and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
