Job Summary
The incumbent of this position serves as Deputy Director in the Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD), Department of Behavioral Health (DBH). The incumbent serves as Deputy Director with responsibility for assisting the Adult Services BHSD. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in developing and maintaining a culturally competent continuum of care for adults who have varying degrees of abilities and psychiatric needs. Also provides administrative direction in planning, organizing, developing, and implementing BHSD services provided for individuals with mental illness served at the clinic to include responsibility for serving the mental health needs of the consumers, by providing access. Incumbent oversees treatment planning and evaluations to ensure that priorities are met, and high standards are maintained. Exercises a high degree of originality and judgment in formulating, evaluating and monitoring the delivery of services and in recommending and establishing overall program priorities.
Qualifications
As a basic requirement, all applicants must have successfully completed a four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree which involved major study in an academic field related to health or allied sciences. This position requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal grade level progression for the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Education
Bachelor’s or higher degree (master’s degree of higher preferred) which involved major study in an academic field related to health or allied sciences.

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Services (MSS) “AT WILL” EMPLOYMENT APPLIES TO THE MANAGEMENT SUPERVISORY SERVICES (MSS). ALL POSITIONS AND APPOINTMENTS IN THE MSS SERVE “AT THE PLEASURE OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY” AND MAY BE TERMINATED AT ANY TIME WITHOUT CAUSE.
Work Experience: This position requires expert knowledge, skills and techniques gained from professional training in a health science or allied scientific field; knowledge of mental health recovery, strengths based, mobile crisis and community support principles.
Work Environment: The work is usually performed in an office setting.
Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday (8:15AM - 5:30PM)
Position Designation: This position is deemed as “Security Sensitive” pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations, in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying protection sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests:
A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of a non-expired DC Driver’s License or Non-driver’s license and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment.
