Job Summary
This position is located in The Department of General Services (DGS), Portfolio Division. DGS manages the capital improvement and construction program for District government facilities; real property for District government use; management of space in buildings operated or leased by District government for selling and leasing other District real property; and for providing building services for facilities owned or operated by the District.
The Realty Officer serves as a manager in the Portfolio Division, responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and managing real property throughout the District government. Responsible for administering, coordinating and serving as the primary advisor on activities related to the management of real property throughout the District government.
Duties And Responsibilities
The Portfolio Division acquires real estate; disposes of surplus property; plans and manages real estate in a concerted effort to achieve its maximum and most appropriate use; maintains a centralized automated property inventory of all real property assets; budgets for the portfolio; and, is responsible for the allocation of space to District agencies. The Division also handles transfers of jurisdiction and easements.
The incumbent manages and allocates space within assets owned and leased by the District government; identifies and secures non-District owned space including managing the lease process; manages the disposal of District real property through sale, lease, or other authorized methods; assists District agencies in developing short and long term plans for space needs; works collaboratively with District agencies and the Construction Division to assist in managing the construction and move processes; manages data and informational needs pertaining to real property; and, main tai ns inventory records for tracking and managing the portfolio.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent maybe required to visit other location from time to time.

MSS-At-Will Statement: Positions in the Management Supervisory Service (MSS) serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Residency Requirement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
