Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (ODMPED). This position functions as Supervisory Project Manager, responsible for the overall supervision, management and coordination of staff assigned to perform complex project management, analysis, and problem resolution for issues affecting ODMPED, and its work towards the economic redevelopment efforts in the city. The incumbent serves as a source of expertise, giving advice and guidance to subordinate staff and agency staff involved with various phases of project development.
This position functions as Supervisory Project Manager, serving as advisor for resolving problems affecting the District's economic development policies and program issues. Incumbent is responsible for the overall management and coordination of staff of the assigned initiative or project, and resources and interagency activities needed to implement programs and policies established by the Deputy Mayor.
Duties And Responsibilities
Serves as a source of expertise on giving advice and counsel to staff developers, community groups and others involved with various aspects or phases of initiative or project development. Provides leadership, oversight, and day-to-day management of the day-to-day work assignments. Supervises, directs and manages staff to accomplish goals and objectives of the work, and assists in the development of skills necessary to accomplish the established goals. Plans and coordinates the activities and work of subordinate staff; sets priorities; conducts performance evaluations; develops training plans; prepares schedules deadlines for completion of work; and approves and disapproves leave.
Recommends strategic land acquisition opportunities and property transitions; serves as a source of expertise giving advice and counsel to agency staff involved with various phases of project development. Evaluates progress on projects, and makes or develops strong feasible adjustment to project plans as required. Serves as liaison on priority initiatives or projects, to varied agencies with principal responsibility for increasing interagency coordination, which results in accomplishment to established goals and outcomes.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the applicant must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not in a collective bargaining unit.
Duration of Appointment: MSS At-Will. This is a Management Supervisory Service (MSS) appointment. Persons appointed to MSS positions do not acquire permanent status but serve at the pleasure of the appointing personnel authority and may be terminated at any time.
Residency Statement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
