Position Summary
The Director of Sales is responsible for developing and executing a targeted group sales strategy, with a strong emphasis on acquiring new business in key markets, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, the West Coast, Texas, and Chicago. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in luxury hospitality sales, deep knowledge of the Arizona market, and a proven track record of leading high-performing sales teams while delivering strong KPIs and revenue growth. This is a sales-focused role requiring an established Director of Sales who understands the culture of luxury hospitality and can drive group business effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Group Sales Strategy & Business Development:
- Develop and implement a highly targeted group sales strategy to increase bookings and maximize revenue.
- Actively pursue new business in key feeder markets, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, West Coast, Texas, and Chicago.
- Leverage experience to maximize brand resources, partnerships, and loyalty programs.
- Build and expand relationships with meeting planners, corporate accounts, and group travel buyers.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments to proactively adjust sales strategies.
Account Management & Market Penetration:
- Maintain and grow a strong network of local and national contacts.
- Focus on high-value group business, including corporate retreats, incentives, and meetings.
- Utilize proprietary systems to optimize revenue and capture more market share.
- Conduct site inspections, FAM trips, and sales presentations to secure group contracts.
Leadership & Performance Metrics:
- Lead and mentor the sales team to exceed revenue goals and grow group business.
- Establish territory goals and KPIs for market penetration and revenue targets.
- Monitor sales performance and implement data-driven strategies to maximize efficiency.
- Represent the property at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to strengthen brand presence.
Sales Operations & Reporting:
- Oversee sales forecasting, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring alignment with hotel revenue goals.
- Use CRM systems and market intelligence tools to track and optimize performance.
- Collaborate with the Revenue Management team to ensure pricing and availability align with demand.
- Work closely with Marketing to create promotional campaigns that drive group business.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Marketing, or a related field required; MBA or professional sales certifications (e.g., CHDM, CMP) preferred.
- At least 5 years of luxury hospitality sales experience.
- Extensive experience with sales systems, culture, and best practices in the hospitality industry.
- Strong existing relationships with corporate contacts and meeting planners.
- Proven track record of acquiring new business and driving group sales.
- Deep understanding of the Arizona market, with established connections in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and surrounding areas.
- Experience working with West Coast, Texas, and Chicago as key feeder markets.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a history of meeting and exceeding KPIs.
- Expertise in hotel sales systems, revenue management strategies, and digital sales tools.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
