Job Summary

This position is located in the Department of Buildings (DOB), Office of the Director. The mission of the DOB is to protect the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors and advance the development of the built environment through permitting, inspections, and code enforcement.

Incumbent is responsible for managing various aspects related to customer inquiries and account maintenance, including but not limited to, ensuring efficient and effective resolution of customer issues related to permitting, zoning, vacant property, and property maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as a liaison between DOB senior leadership, City Council, residents, and stakeholders offering expert guidance and support throughout the permitting processes, zoning regulations, vacant property concerns, and property maintenance complaints. Incumbent collaborates with subject matter experts (Plan Reviewers, Residential Inspectors) to provide timely and accurate solutions, while also identifying and recommending process improvements to enhance overall service delivery. Serves as a point of contact for cases escalated to DOB Director and senior leadership and responds to and resolves complex issues raised by Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC's), City Councilmembers, Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCR), residents, and stakeholders to ensure timely and satisfactory resolution.

Facilitates communication and coordination between various internal DOB departments, external District agencies, and stakeholders to ensure a seamless resolution process. Troubleshoots and resolves any technical issues customers may encounter during the permitting process and guides residents through the agency's online platforms and tools, ensuring clarity and efficient utilization. Engage with community members and foster relationships through public workshops, neighborhood walks, participating in civic meetings and conducting site visits.

Qualifications and Education

Specialized Experience is Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

At least two years working experience where data analysis is part of routine job function in transportation planning, urban planning, policy, or another related field is highly preferred.

Work is usually in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.
