As a Greenhouse House Plants Crew Leader, you will play a crucial supporting role in our greenhouse operations. Your key responsibilities will include ensuring a positive customer experience by promptly addressing their needs and inquiries, assisting with inventory management through organization, stock rotation, and maintaining appropriate levels for efficient operations. You'll also help create attractive product displays that showcase our diverse plant selection and engage customers. In addition to supervising and guiding a team of employees to promote a collaborative and productive work environment, you will assist with daily operations, such as staff scheduling and plant care, to enhance the overall efficiency of the department.
You'll collaborate closely with the Greenhouse Manager to meet departmental objectives while cultivating a positive team atmosphere. As a dedicated role model with a love for plants and a commitment to exceptional customer service, you will lead by example, inspiring and motivating your team to achieve outstanding results that exceed customer expectations.
Hourly Rate: $18.00-$20.00 an hour
About Us: Colonial Gardens, located in Blue Springs, MO, was added to our brand family in 2016. Founded in 1969, renovations began in 2017 to create an agritourism destination. Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership Exemplify our core values, set an example, lead, and train while carrying out a culture of accountability, task execution, and exemplifying department growth
- Operations Management Manage crew, tasks, plant health, events in House Plant Department, projects, and inventory in a fast paced and changing environment while optimizing efficiency, productivity, sales and profitability
- Sales & Inventory Planning - Assist in department annual planning and sales goals, as well as daily and weekly planned functions and operational tasks for efficiency and reaching goals
- Operational Execution - Execute with the crew daily tasks and projects in the House Plants Department to optimize everything from space utilization, irresistible displays, profitability, efficient staff utilization, and customer service
Essential Job Duties:
- Lead, train, assist crew to carry out daily routines and tasks according to the daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal check list, and other tasks, projects or duties as assigned by the Greenhouse Manager
- Build relationships and teach our customers in a personable and friendly manner to help them be successful with plants, while maximizing sale
- Manage inventory and plant selection to maximize sales potential
- Responsible for scheduling and staffing of the department through the changing seasons according to the budget
- Place orders or assist in ordering and direct stocking, merchandising, watering, pruning/trimming, deadheading, and displaying to an irresistible level
- Regular auditing of signage, signage placement, signage accuracy, and correct sticker/tagging of the plant material and cycle counts
- Monitor plant health and notify manager of any plant issues and dispose of any dead or unsalable plants according to the pitch process
- Help unload trucks, inspect, and count products accurately and prepare material for display in a quick and efficient way, sign and turn in paperwork, with accurate notes, according to the receiving process
- Responsible for content, blogs, videos and social media posts regarding plants or education within the department
- Responsible for planning and presenting classes and workshops throughout the year
- Participate in and conduct short weekly huddles with staff to provide information on upcoming events, news or changes as well as communicate daily/weekly tasks and goals
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handle customer issues with professionalism
- Maintain all tools and greenhouse equipment for efficient daily and seasonal operations
- Learn how to use radio and department phone, and properly train crew
- Learn how to mix fertilizer and use irrigation equipment
- Learn how to repot or upsize plants for customers and create customs according to processes established at the Plant Bar
- Assist in production of annuals or house plants as needed by the direction of the Production Lead or Manager
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment that requires physical stamina
- Keen attention to detail and strong situational awareness
- Outstanding customer service and effective communication skills
- Proficient at multitasking and efficiently managing various tasks, particularly during busy periods
- Shows a sense of urgency during high-traffic times
- Fundamental knowledge of plant care, including house plants, cacti, succulents, and annuals
- Open to new initiatives within the department and eager to contribute creative ideas for business improvement
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalence
- Preferred: Garden Center industry experience
- Preferred: Missouri Private Applicators License, can later take training to obtain the license
- Preferred: Plant knowledge in the areas of annuals, vegetables and herbs
- Required: Must be available to work at least one weekend day throughout most of the year, and full weekends during peak seasons as well as some overtime hours
