The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is the official national Democratic campaign committee charged with electing Democrats to the U. S. House of Representatives. The DCCC recruits Democratic candidates and supports Democratic campaigns – both challengers and Democratic incumbent Members – with a variety of services including field operations, fundraising support, communications assistance, digital strategy, research support and management consulting. The DCCC is supported by the contributions of individuals and organizations, along with Democratic Members, from throughout the country. Due to the cyclic nature of our organization, all positions are subject to separation at the end of the election cycle.
Position Summary: The Research Director is responsible for working with the Deputy ED in building and managing the research and tracking teams that will play an essential role in winning the House majority. The Research Director will work closely with Communications, Policy, and the Deputy ED to identify key areas of focus and build research materials to be used by the Committee as well as Members and candidates in battleground races.
Responsibilities Include:
- Hiring and day-to-day management of the DCCC Research Department, as well as managing the hiring of the broader research and tracking teams;
- Work closely with Deputy ED and outside partners and consultants to design and test messaging that builds winning coalitions in battleground districts;
- Ensure systems are in place to protect sensitive research information;
- Coordinate close working relationships between the Research team and the Comms and Campaigns teams, as well as with battleground Members and candidates, to ensure research materials and tracking reports are actionable;
- Work with the Deputy ED on the hiring and management of any outside research consultants;
- Seek opportunities and develop efforts to increase diversity of candidates, campaign-related staff, and campaign teams;
- Provide thought leadership around and opportunities for continued professional development and training of campaigns team members and campaign staff;
- Provide research presentations to members of the Dem Caucus and other stakeholders as needed;
- Perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the Research team.
Requirements
- Extensive political research experience required with previous political committee or non-profit research experience preferred;
- Past hiring and staff management experience required;
- Past experience managing and working with outside consultants required;
- Strong communication, discretion, and problem-solving skills;
- Self-motivation and the ability to anticipate and prevent problems;
- Strong commitment to teamwork;
- Possess the initiative to work independently and follow through on all projects;
