PHYSICAL FACTORS
Under the supervision of the RN Supervisor, the LPN assists with direct/indirect patient care based on experience, training, certifications, and demonstrated ability consistent with the duties listed below for the DCH Occupational Medicine department onsite at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa.
Responsibilities:
Performs basic and/or advanced nursing tasks indicated for adult patients at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa medical office.- Performs task required to prepare patients for pre-employment or annual physical examinations outlined in employer’s protocol. May include, but not limited to PFT, Drug and Alcohol Screening, Audiogram, Lab Test, EKG, Vision Screening, Vaccinations.
- Performs assessments and completes documentation for patients presenting for initial injury/illness care and reoccurring visits.
- Dispenses medications per physician orders.
- Assists in managing medication inventory, tracking and use of medication software.
- Provides basic patient care or treatments, such as taking vital signs, measuring height, weight, assessing pain level, administering prescribed medications, wound dressings and application of splints/braces.
- Reports abnormal results and/or observations to provider.
- Anticipates the needs of the provider, ensuring that follow up test results, reports, and any outside documentation are available for review.
- Completes documentation and correctly organizes all medical data in medical record.
- Provides and documents patient education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, and developmental needs, after identifying barriers to learning.
- Responsible for managing phone communications and scheduling of patient appointments.
- Maintains a safe, clean and JACHO compliant work environment.
- Attends in-service programs, all mandatory required training/education and unit/department/service meetings.

Qualifications:
Holds a current Alabama LPN license and in good standing with the board.- At least one year experience in outpatient/ambulatory setting preferred.
- Skill mix must include dressing changes/wound care and splint application.
- Primary Care/Urgent care experience preferred.
- BLS required within 90 days of hire.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English
- Proficient in the use of computer technology.

Interpersonal Relationships This position requires working and communicating effectively within a team in a fast paced working environment delivering medical services to patients and clients.- Physical Work Conditions This position includes potential exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazardous material. This position requires wearing personal protective equipment in appropriate situations.
- Structural Job Characteristics This position has a Monday through Friday, 0800-1630 work schedule, but requires work necessary to perform the the job.
