What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Operations Manager (BNSF Liaison) position at DCLI?
As a BNSF Assistant Pool Manager, you will be become a member of a dynamic team providing support for the movements of Intermodal chassis across North America ensuring all stakeholders, and customers receive a best-in-class experience.
This role will be located at BNSF’s Ft. Worth headquarters. The role will support DCLI and BNSF working together to meet all logistical and M&R aspects of providing chassis to our mutual customers. Through close coordinating with BNSF corporate operational team, the role will ensure assets are in the appropriate locations to support demand, plus be the go to liaison / first point of contact for DCLI for all operational concerns related to BNSF intermodal facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- BNSF liaison for day-to-day operational items both Marine and Domestic
- Meet regularly with key stakeholders at BNSF corporate office and terminal operations to review fleeting, maintenance & repair and other operational items
- Work directly with BNSF EDI team on data integrity issues
- Provide visibility to changing conditions within DCLI network
- POC to BNSF to provide updates of fleet planning/provisioning
- Assist with new DCLI customer onboarding (BNSF)
- Identify and resolve issues regarding bare chassis releases from BNSF terminals, be POC to all DCLI regional managers regarding this issue
- Provide visibility to terminal issues related to DCLI chassis, i.e., misuse of chassis on terminal, dwelling chassis at high utilization terminals, dwelling mounted out bound containers, missing ties/unties, etc. Travel to terminals as necessary
- Reconcile BNSF/DCLI terminal inventories on a regular basis
- Oversee and manage daily metrics and ad hoc reports requested by BNSF
- Participate in meetings at BNSF Ft Worth HQ involving DCLI chassis
- Identify ways to create efficiencies and develop best practices between BNSF and DCLI
- Provide visibility and manage limiting chassis migrations between BNSF terminals
- Provide updates on special projects, chassis recoveries, repo plans, etc.
- Participate in BNSF/DCLI Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR)
- Direct the movement of DCLI CSU (Chassis Shipping Units) to the next point of need
- Coordinate the proper loading and unloading, ensuring that correct procedures are followed
- Request and set up rail lanes for the CSUs.
- Track and report all moves
- Rail bill each shipment (loaded or bundled) and track/trace it until the shipment arrives at its destination.
- Coordinate with pool managers in each market to move NS chassis at non-gateway locations back to a gateway location or return bad orders to a location capable of repairs
- Coordinate CSU repairs as needed with the DCLI M&R staff
- Notify and coordinate all TOFC needs within the domestic group to BNSF
- Track and report all TOFC moves on a daily/weekly basis
Qualifications
- College degree preferred or minimum three years business experience
- Minimum one-year experience in transportation required.
- Advance skills in MS Office software applications.
- Ability to identify problems and seek solutions.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and efficiently to meet daily requirements.
- Ability to communicate with internal and external customers. Prior experience with customer service experience
- Conscientious and dependable.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
