Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pre-Construction Intern to join our team this summer. This internship will provide you with a unique opportunity to assist in the planning, estimation, and coordination of asphalt and concrete projects before they break ground. You will work closely with the pre-construction team, gaining practical experience in project planning, cost estimation, material sourcing, and design considerations. This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing construction management, civil engineering, or related fields to build a strong foundation in the pre-construction phase of infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in reviewing and analyzing project plans, specifications, and contracts for asphalt and concrete projects.
- Help support the preparation of cost estimates for asphalt and concrete work, including material costs, labor, and equipment.
- Participate in site assessments and surveys to evaluate project needs, including soil conditions, traffic patterns, and accessibility for asphalt and concrete installation.
- Assist with the preparation of project schedules, ensuring that timelines for materials, labor, and equipment are met.
- Support the procurement team by identifying and sourcing materials needed for asphalt and concrete projects.
- Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to ensure that plans meet quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Help identify potential risks and challenges in project planning, offering solutions to mitigate issues before construction begins.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and document discussions regarding project scope, timeline, and logistics.
- Assist in preparing and submitting permits, environmental reports, and other required documentation for project approval.
- Provide support in coordinating subcontractor bids and assisting with vendor selection.
- Assist with maintaining and updating project documentation and reports.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in asphalt and concrete construction and the pre-construction process.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively collaborate with team members and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with construction estimation and project management software is a plus.
- Ability to review and understand construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous construction-related experience or coursework is a plus but not required.
