ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND RECREATION:
The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails, golf courses and parkways.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the positions of Seasonal Recreational Facility Waterfront Supervisor III. This position will oversee the day to day operation of a state park inland swimming area working with the Lifeguard staff and park labor staff.
DUTIES:
May require operation of a Patrol Boat used in monitoring waterfront swimming areas. Enforce waterfront guidelines and make recommendations to park visitors engaged in waterfront swimming. Enforce and promote sound practices involved in waterfront swimming.
Supervise assigned staff performing visitor recreation and/or education services, facility maintenance and resource protection programs. Specific responsibilities relative to staff management include: work assignment and scheduling; work performance review and evaluation and staff development and training.
Work with both the staff and the public to ensure that all know the rules and regulations for the waterfront operation and that all these are followed.
Participate in all waterfront and lifeguard pre-service training as offered by the Department.
Work with the lead supervisors of the facility to ensure that the swimming area is monitored properly and the waterfront is operating per the Department waterfront manual.
Ensure that all required training is done and all records are kept and submitted in a timely manner.
Supervises the Lifeguarding staff and other seasonal staff assigned to the waterfront including Laborers and Summer Workers.
Ensure efficient and effective operation of the swimming facility including personnel management and training.
This is a working supervisory position requiring weekends and holiday work.
Works closely with the Department’s Aquatics office to ensure that they have all of the supplies needed and that lifeguards are properly trained.
Conducts initial and end of season inventory and stores equipment for safety.
Performs other related work as required
Salaries are based upon full-time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the Supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays.
- Education toward such a program will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
