Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Estimator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction estimating and project management, with the ability to effectively negotiate prices and build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are accurately estimated, budgeted, and executed within the defined scope.
Duties
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop comprehensive cost estimates. Calculate costs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead costs ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Obtain material and subcontract quotes from vendors and subcontractors. Building good relationships with vendors and subs.
- Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
- Perform risk assessments to identify any challenges or risks associated with project costs, propose solutions, and contingencies.
- Compile and submit bids on time by preparing and organizing all necessary bid documents, ensuring they are complete and meet client requirements. Submit bids within the specified deadlines, maintaining a competitive edge.
- Collaborate with project teams by working closely with project managers and engineers to align estimates with project goals and timelines. Obtain and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness and accuracy.
- Support the Chief Estimator by contributing to the development and implementation of estimating strategies and methodologies. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating practices and processes.
- Monitor market trends and costs by staying updated on industry trends, material costs, labor rates, and equipment rates to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions. Adjust estimates based on the latest market data and forecasts to maintain accuracy.
- Mentor and support junior estimators by providing guidance, training, and support to junior team members. Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, promoting professional development and skills enhancement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of heavy civil construction experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of heavy civil estimating experience.
- Proficient in construction estimating techniques and methodologies.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a focus on achieving favorable pricing outcomes.
- Familiarity with construction site operations and safety protocols.
- Experience using HeavyBid or similar estimating software is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to ensure precise estimates.
