The Director of Communications serves as an integral member of the De La Salle community and is responsible for the development and implementation of De La Salle’s communication and marketing strategies. This position develops and oversees the comprehensive communications plan for De La Salle, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect De La Salle’s brand reputation and advance our mission. The Director of Communications is responsible for developing, integrating, and implementing a broad range of marketing communications activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of De La Salle and its leadership. This individual is an ambassador and the Chief Storytelling Officer for the school and continually builds relationships with the media and broader community. By advancing De La Salle’s position with relevant constituents, the Director of Communications drives broader awareness for the benefit of enrollment goals, financial support for the school, and improving community perception.

Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum five years’ experience in a senior management role, either in-house or with an agency.
- Demonstrated experience managing comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, and marketing programs to advance an organization's mission and goals.
- Extensive writing and editing experience with a variety of print and online communications media.
- Creative and thoughtful about how new media technologies can be utilized for maximum effect.
- Experience in the planning, writing, editing, design, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing collateral, and other print publications.
- Innovative thinker with experience translating strategic thinking and tactics into action plans and output.
- Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top-tier reporters and editors, and successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placements.
- Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and crisis management skills.
- Management skills, including the ability to influence and engage with direct and indirect reports and peers.
- Self-reliant, good problem solver, results-oriented.
- Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
- Excellent and persuasive communicator.
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; an ability to positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance, and administration initiatives.
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with the administration, De La Salle’s Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, students, parents, and alumni.
- Strong skills using communications software including: Google Drive and related apps; Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Excel, Word).
- Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, promotions, and engagement methods.
- Experience with Google platforms/programs, including AdWords, Docs, Analytics.
