Title: Head Coach - Lacrosse
FLSA Status: ___Exempt ___ Non-Exempt ___ Part-time
Job Summary:
This position reports to both the Lacrosse Club and the Athletic Director and is responsible for
developing, organizing, and managing the lacrosse program in alignment with the school’s
mission to foster academic, spiritual, and athletic growth in the context of Catholic and Jesuit
values. The Head Coach will guide student-athletes not only in athletic excellence but also in
personal development rooted in faith, service, and social responsibility.
Specific Responsibilities:
Faith-Centered Leadership: Develop and implement a lacrosse program that reflects the Jesuit
commitment to holistic education, focusing on the development of the entire person: body, mind,
and spirit. Promote Catholic values of integrity, respect, and service within the lacrosse program.
- Coaching & Spiritual Formation: Lead daily practice sessions that prioritize not only
skill-building and athletic performance but also the personal growth of student-athletes as
young men of faith.
- Season creation: Create and maintain the season schedule for practice and games.
Formation of the regular season game schedule can be difficult and requires the head
coach to be well networked with in-conference, in-state, and out-of-state teams.
- Game Strategy & Preparation: Create and implement effective game strategies.
Approach the game with a spirit of competition that respects the individual and promotes
teamwork, while emphasizing fair play and sportsmanship.
- Team Formation & Mentorship: Build a team culture rooted in Catholic values, where
each player is encouraged to grow in leadership, accountability, and teamwork. Establish
clear expectations of conduct.
- Collaboration with Club and Athletic Staff: Work closely with the assistant coaches to
create a cohesive coaching approach that incorporates the mission of Jesuit education.
Collaborate with the Athletic Director and other school personnel to ensure that the
lacrosse program serves as an extension of the school’s mission.
- Communication with Families: Foster strong communication with players and their
families, sharing the team’s goals and progress in ways that emphasize both athletic and
personal growth. Keep families informed about practice schedules, games, and other
critical player activities.
- Player Retention: Promote a positive, inclusive team culture that fosters retention by
emphasizing personal development, teamwork, and the importance of faith in all aspects
of life.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure that the program adheres to all relevant safety protocols
and league regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety procedures, equipment,
and lacrosse rules while ensuring that all practices and games.
- Community Engagement: Represent Desmet Jesuit High School and the lacrosse
program at relevant lacrosse-related events and community activities. Promote the
school’s Catholic identity, values, and commitment to service within the broader
community.

Supervision Received (Title of Supervisor):
- Athletic Director, Lacrosse Club
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Previous lacrosse playing experience, preferably division 1 or division 2 collegiate and/or
professional level.
- Previous varsity lacrosse coaching experience, preferably at the high school or collegiate
level, with a strong emphasis on the personal development of student-athletes.
- Strong knowledge of lacrosse skills, strategies, and fundamentals specifically related to
the highest level of American high school lacrosse.
- Ability to foster a positive, values-driven team culture that supports the spiritual,
academic, and athletic growth of student-athletes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students,
parents, staff, and school administrators.
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic and Jesuit education.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance coaching duties and other
professional responsibilities.
- First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience playing lacrosse in division 1 collegiate and/or professional level.
- Experience coaching lacrosse in a highly competitive high school setting.
- Familiarity with Missouri state high school lacrosse league rules and regulations.
