MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS COACH

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Robotics Coach – Middle School

FLSA Status: _X_ Exempt ___ Non-Exempt _X_ Part-time

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for recruiting and preparing a middle school robotics team to

participate in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL). This position helps students develop the skills to

design and build successful robots, fostering a spirit of team building and professionalism

throughout the process.

Specific Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Teaching robotics team members the principles of robotics, including the functions of

power source, sensors, motors, and structural support of the robot.

• Overseeing research into the design, operation, and performance of robots.

• Keeping track of and ensuring a sufficient inventory of tools, parts, and other supplies.

• Supervising and guiding students in building, configuring, and performance of robots.

• Following and enforcing all safety rules and guidelines of the FIRST Robotics program.

• Scheduling and coordinating meets and competitions, including any necessary travel

arrangements and trip logistics.

• Engaging and encouraging parents/guardians to become involved.
  

Specific Responsibilities – All Teachers

• Preparing engaging lessons and units that promote skills, knowledge, and critical thinking

consistent with course outcomes and using the framework of Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm.

• Maintaining up-to-date lesson plans; developing rubrics for projects and other class activities;

correcting student work in a conscientious and prompt manner; and maintaining up-to-date scope

and sequence for courses taught using published curriculum framework in coordination with the

department chair.

Supervision Exercised:

• Students, presenters or other visitors brought in to share information about science or

robotics

• Assistant coaches, parents, or volunteers

Supervision Received (Title of Supervisor):

• Dean of Middle School

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or technology related area or experience or success in an

occupation requiring the practical application of engineering or mechanical principles

• Knowledge and experience in robot coding (Java), basic robotic principles and

construction (pneumatics, wiring, sensors, electronics, motor controllers)

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with FLL robotics

• Understanding of and commitment to the spirit and mission of Jesuit education

• Practicing Catholic, committed to Catholic orthodoxy
