Position Summary:

The Public Involvement (PI) Intern will provide support to PI team leads. This position requires strict attention to detail, the ability to communicate well with large and small groups, multi-tasking, and seeing assignments through from start to finish. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
This position requires travel to project site locations in southeast Wisconsin. Occasional evening and weekend work may be needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with facilitating and organizing open houses, workshops, public hearings, neighborhood meetings, ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, workshops, and other public events.
- Learning to develop various public outreach materials for assigned projects.
- Attend external project, agency, and community meetings to provide public involvement updates and identify public involvement issues.
- Assist the PI lead with collecting data and managing databases, including database development, and reporting and maintaining records relating to project work.
- Taking meeting minutes; scheduling and coordinating meetings and events (including meeting location); and participating in client meetings, as needed.
- Helping catalog and respond to public inquiries related to projects.
- Assist PI leads with taking photographs, literature drops, and installing temporary business signs within active work zones.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have or are currently pursuing a degree in communications/public relations/marketing/journalism, or a related field. Relevant work experience and or experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (A/E/C) industry is preferred but not required.
This position requires flexibility and the ability to be proactive and work independently. The candidate must be well organized, disciplined, and able to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong time management skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work beyond standard business hours.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook).
- Knowledge of web publishing software, and social media programs helpful.
- Self-directed, personally motivated, works well under pressure.
- Ability to work with and take direction from multiple levels of professional staff.
- Must have valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and capable of standing for longer periods of time at public events.
