Job Overview :
Under the supervision of the RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of a specific patient population (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet / exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal. PCTs must demonstrate awareness of patients' rights in all aspects of patient care and report issues to the appropriate person. The PCT demonstrates leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted while providing patient care and comfort. Assist professional staff with basic life support principles.
Unit Description :
The Surgery Oncology department is a 32 bed inpatient adult comprehensive multidisciplinary unit that provides care to general surgery and oncology patients with remote telemetry capabilities. Surgery / Oncology provides pre and post op care to the surgery patient as well as provides chemotherapy and symptom management to the oncology patient. The environment is welcoming to families, and all patient rooms are private. Education of treatment is provided to both the patient and family to provide patient-centered care.
