Job Overview
The OP Infusion Pharmacy Technician has responsibility for assisting in all aspects of the drug distribution, billing and patient record keeping processes in the provision of Pharmaceutical Care in both the inpatient pharmacy as well as the outpatient infusion suite(s). Must staff an average of at least 40 hours per pay period in the infusion center pharmacy and Henderson inpatient pharmacy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides Drug Distribution.
- Compounds Intravenous Solutions, including hazardous medications.
- Understands and maintains compliance with USP 797 and 800 regulations.
- Performs Clerical Functions.
- Packages Medications in Unit Dose Packaging.
- Optimizes Utilization of Departmental Equipment.
- Maintains Departmental Systems and Records.
- Complies with Standards of Employee Conduct.
- Assists in training and continuing competency of staff.
- Prepares selected extemporaneously compounded medications.
- Completes monthly unit inspections.
- Participates in inventory of Pharmaceuticals twice annually.
- Performs purchasing function in the absence of the Purchasing Specialist.
- Participates in department and hospital committees and quality improvement teams.
- Provides training / orientation for new employees as needed.
What You Will Need
High School diploma. Employee with 6 months of sterile compounding experience preferred. Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Must be licensed or qualify for license in the State of Indiana and Kentucky. Requires Certified Pharmacy Technician designation within 1 year of employment.

The Pharmacy provides 24 / 365 access to pharmacist and pharmacy services. Technology plays an important role in the distribution process within Deaconess. The department strives to provide the most up-to-date equipment to ensure patient and staff safety. Medication distribution uses a combination of centralized and decentralized automation, bar code medication administration and smart pump technology. Patient information is managed through EPIC for both in and outpatients to create a complete medical record. The Pharmacy supports a decentralized patient-centered, integrated model.
