What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Assistant Manager position at Dean Baldwin Painting?
Dean Baldwin Painting, an aircraft painting company established 60 years ago has opened a new, state of the art aircraft painting facility in Macon, Georgia.
The Safety Assistant Manager will be responsible for executing company safety policies and ensuring compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations. This individual must instruct and train employees in company safety policies and procedures. The Safety Assistant Manager will be required to identify best practices and incorporate these practices into our standards to continuously improve company safety programs and policies. These best practices will impact corporate savings through elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and improvement of production efficiency, and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manages the employee health and safety programs by managing current safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Provide employee safety awareness activities to prevent work-related injuries/illnesses
- Monitor and assess company’s safety incentive and recognition programs and determine an effective approach to making safety top in everyone’s mind.
- Establish and maintain company safety goals and strategic plan annually.
- Present status updates at Quarterly Management Review Meetings.
- Manage OSHA inspection and response process.
- Manages and adheres to DBP safety programs and trains managers and employees in work site safety policies.
- May be required to assist in the consolidation & disposal of hazardous waste.
- Ensure safety recordkeeping and data integrity. Provides Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
- Ensure the facility complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Routinely review all applicable local, regional, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct routine audits to identify and correct non-compliance conditions.
- Maintain the following plans and Manuals for the Facility:
- Maintain Facility Contingency Plan
- Monthly checklist including Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan, CAA area, NFPA 409 inspections.
- Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan
- Hazardous Materials Security Plan (MCN Only)
- Respond to emergencies during regular work schedule and off shift times.
- Act as Incident Commander for the Facility.
- Coordinate Workers Compensation and Return to Duty Programs.
- Maintain all Workers Compensation case files and report all workers compensation claims.
- Investigate job accidents and incidents using Haddon Matrix to ensure safe working practices are being followed.
- Implement safety awareness activities and coordinate required training
- Enforce industrial hygiene and hearing conservation programs
- Perform other duties including wearing respiratory protection, handling and labeling hazardous waste, among other industrial labor tasks.
- May be required to assist in the consolidation & disposal of hazardous waste.
Education/Experience:
- Must be able to read, write and understand the English language fluently and have strong communication skills, both oral and written (training/presentations/report writing.)
- Must possess a working knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, regulations, and guidelines.
- The following work experience is preferred: investigating incidents, interviewing individuals, issuing corrective action, facilitating formal meetings, public speaking, and writing policies.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral and analytical capability. Must explain technical safety concepts in simple terms using Root Cause Analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft products; Access, Word, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and Excel. Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work at all levels within an organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
Must possess or be able to obtain the following certifications:
- OSHA 501 trainer card (OSHA 30-hour card minimum)
- 49 CFR DOT trained
- 40 CFR RCRA trained
- OSHA 40-hour certification
- Advanced CPR, First Aid and AED certified
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Management
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
- Safety Field: 3 years (Required)
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Subject to continual loud noises.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders and or service/stands.
- Must be able to work at heights utilizing fall protection equipment.
