Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Wastewater Operator to join our team. The wastewater operator will operate, monitor, test, adjust, maintain and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes to achieve optimum results.
Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, compliance with Federal, State and Municipal operating regulations and parameters, facilities collection, and transfer apparatus.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the instruction and direction of the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Director or Contracted Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Consultant, subject to review through reports and results achieved.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The wastewater operator will perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance within Federal, State and Local regulations governing the wastewater treatment process and sludge management.
- The operator is responsible for completing the necessary water samples and documentation for the quarterly Bi- Annual and Annual compliance testing.
- Perform the servicing, maintenance and repair of the physical plant, pump locations apparatus and all their components.
- Act as the department’s representative to the EH&S Director, Professional WWTP Consultant or company designate.
- Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery.
- Be on call and respond to help with emergencies and breakdowns at the plant or fill in with the absence of other operators.
- Conduct the necessary weekend operations of the treatment plant on a rotating basis as scheduled or assigned.
- Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State, local and municipal agencies.
- Maintain open and thorough communications with the EH&S Director regarding the treatment process, pumps, chemical mixing, press operations, testing and / or any malfunctions, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to these systems.
Requirements
- Proven experience in wastewater treatment or a related field is preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Be able to perform and document various tests required by Federal, State, and local Municipal agencies for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant to meet all permit requirements.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by operational tasks.
- Have a working knowledge of the machinery and equipment used for wastewater treatment and pumping stations.
- Proficient in plumbing skills related to wastewater systems.
- Strong analytical skills for monitoring and optimizing treatment processes.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Be able to add, mix and apply precise applicable chemicals
Training and Experience Required
- Possess a high school diploma.
- Have adequate and applicable experience in operations of a wastewater treatment facility. (Preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to descend and climb a series of at least 15 rungs or stairs to access system pumps or equipment.
- Must have the ability to lift 60 pounds.
- Must have adequate respiratory function to utilize a filter mask.
- Must have the ability to detect and differentiate colors.
- Must be honest, hard-working, follow instructions, work well with others, be precise.
Salary: Starting at $20.00 increases with Waster Water License.
