Location:
Smethport, PA
Summary:
Work closely with the Project Manager to plan, schedule and execute the day to day operations of heavy and highway construction projects. Supervise multiple craft employee crews to ensure tasks are safely and productively completed in a timely manner with a quality finished project. Coordinate activities with supporting operations and subcontractors to promote good project quality, safety and productivity. This position will involve both field and office work with indirect supervision.
Duties Include:
- Develop and maintain a complete and thorough understanding of the plans and specifications of a project from start to finish.
- Develop a plan to meet or exceed the specifications, safety requirements and production paces of the project
- Perform short and long term scheduling to maximize the utilization of crews, equipment and materials.
- Maintain communication with other company departments and subcontractors to ensure goals are being achieved
- Proactively communicate plans, schedules, and expectation with customers to ensure needs and specifications are being addressed
- Plan a work schedule, determining manpower levels, material needs, truck and equipment needs and traffic control requirements
- Advise project managers of potential problems, scheduling issues, work interference, etc and assist in circumventing or resolving problems as required
- Complete employee and crew time reports to reflect the hours worked on each project phase per day
- Submit accurate paperwork, reports and schedules on time
- Provide leadership, guidance, encouragement and feedback to assist in the continual personal and professional growth of company employees
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Working more than 40 hours per week as needed
- Working nights and weekends as needed
- Perform manual labor as needed
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
Knowledge of:
- PENNDOT 408
- Standard and special provision specifications
- Heavy and Highway Construction techniques including earthwork, paving, utility, site development and bridge work
- Construction materials
- Construction equipment and capabilities
- Construction means and methods
- Basic operation of heavy equipment
Ability to:
- Read and interpret plans and specifications
- Plan and coordinate operations
- Supervise and evaluate performance of crews and individual crew members
- Accurately calculate daily project material needs and documentation
- Accurately calculate daily project completed quantities and documentation
- Determine haul times to projects to efficiently plan trucking needs
- Efficiently use a computer and office related equipment
- Properly care for and maintain company equipment
- Follow company policies and procedures
- Properly and neatly complete required paperwork
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Walk and work on uneven terrain
- Work in a field environment and tolerate exposure to dust, weather conditions, vibrations and noise
- Wear PPE while in the field
- Work out of town
Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license for state in which you reside
- Must reside within 1.5 hours of travel time to Smethport, PA
- Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills
- Strong mathematical skills
- Strong analytical ability
Education:
- High school graduate preferred
- Prefer A.A.S.,A.S. or B.S. in engineering, project/construction management, or construction related field
Experience:
- Prefer five years of experience in a heavy highway construction leadership role
- AUTOCAD experience a plus
