The Nutrition Assistants are responsible for assisting in meal planning, preparation, delivery, and monitoring patients' nutrition-related needs while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and sanitation. The role also requires direct interaction with patients and healthcare staff to ensure that the nutritional needs of hospitalized patients are met according to their care plans.
Job Duties :
- Assist in preparing and serving meals to patients, ensuring that food meets individual dietary requirements and preferences.
- Ensure that patient meals are delivered on time and in accordance with prescribed diet plans.
- Communicate with patients to gather feedback on food quality and adjust as necessary.
- Provide education to patients and their families on proper nutrition and dietary restrictions as instructed by the registered dietitian.
- Assist in the preparation of therapeutic and special diets according to physician orders and dietitian instructions.
- Document patient food preferences, allergies, and dietary restrictions, ensuring this information is communicated to the kitchen and clinical team.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of food and nutritional supplies according to health and safety guidelines.
- Work closely with the clinical team, including dietitians, nurses, and physicians, to meet the nutritional needs of patients.
- Maintain open communication with the dietetics team regarding changes in patient dietary requirements and preferences.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment in compliance with hospital and health regulations.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of food items and supplies.
- Assist in regular cleaning and sanitization of kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
- Follow safe food handling practices at all times.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of patient meal services and inventory of food supplies.
- Support the dietetic team with administrative tasks, including updating dietary charts and records.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with hospital nutrition practices and food safety standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Nutrition Manager or Registered Dietitian.
