About the Job:

Position is responsible for performing a wide variety of construction activities requiring varied experience and skill in one trade area, the dexterous use of hands and tools, and the ability to work without close supervision. Incumbents may assist Skilled Construction Workers in the areas of concrete, steel, or carpentry. The Construction Worker is the second level of an eight-level construction series. The Construction Worker is distinguished from the Laborer by the skill level required to perform craftwork in one particular area such as carpentry, concrete, or structural steel. The Construction Worker is distinguished from the Skilled Construction Worker which performs skilled activities requiring a higher level of skill and a broader knowledge base to perform tasks in two or more specialized areas.

 

What we are Looking For:


Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Reading blueprints, specification;
  • Utilizing construction techniques in specialized trade areas such as concrete, steel, carpentry;
  • Operating hand and power tools;
  • Operating equipment such as skid loaders, air compressors; jack hammers; scissors lift, man lift (all terrain);
  • Retaining new information and mastering new craft skills;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive and retain work direction.
  • Valid Driver’s License Preferred

 

Education/Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.); 

 

  • Two years of construction-related experience with at least one year in a specialized trade area; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
  • Heavy Work:   Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
