SUMMARY
Responsible for the supervision of staff in the execution of maintaining facilities and equipment within the District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES include the following:
· Plan, perform and supervise employees in all phases of park maintenance. This includes maintenance, improvements and upkeep of grounds, landscaping, athletic fields, playgrounds, walking paths, facilities, equipment, etc.
· Directs workers engaged in ground maintenance activities such as mowing, edging, trimming hedges, removing weeds, tree trimming/removal, brush removal, mulching, raking, and disposing of leaves.
· Directs workers engaged in facility maintenance and cleaning. Such activities include cleaning up trash, emptying garbage cans, cleaning restrooms, rearranging pavilions, cleaning tables, repairs and general maintenance of facilities.
· Directs work of staff in handling special events on evenings and weekends at various points during the year.
· Directs work of the garbage crew to empty garbage cans and dumpsters throughout the District.
· Directs work of snow removal at designated facilities.
· Directs work of staff in managing athletic fields which includes turf maintenance, irrigation, spraying, seeding, fertilizing, striping, and managing equipment.
· Prepare daily work schedules for subordinates and assist supervisors in the development of short and long term maintenance goals.
· Recruit new employees within budget constraints and instruct him/her in proper procedures within their assigned duties, including general orientation and education of safety policies.
· Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
· Prepare cost estimates and maintenance reports and assist park police and Risk Management by preparing damage reports.
· Requisitions tools and supplies.
· Inspects facilities, grounds, and completed work for conformance to job standards.
· Estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
· Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
· Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
· Prepares bi-weekly payroll and submits to the payroll department in a timely basis
· Maintains time and production records.
· Keeps records on all equipment and commodities used in maintenance operations
· Organizes and participates in the preparation of the department budget
· Recommends capital project expenditures and priorities
· Reviews and approves departmental purchases and maintains records of expenditures
· Prepares and/or directs the preparation of board summaries, monthly reports, and periodic and special reports
· Conducts staff meetings with direct reports
· Performs the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook
· Maintains a clean and organized work environment
· Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 1 to 15 employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Illinois Pesticide Applicator’s License
Commercial Driver’s License Class A
